Loved Tara so much. Was never much of a history gal, but hearing her lecture about social theorists from the past and connecting their theories to today's society was really cool. Midterm was great, she gave all the questions beforehand to study and left plenty of class time to answer questions. One paper and then a short reflection for the final.
super nice and pretty easygoing in terms of grading. midterm and final were both online, and as long as you read the textbook it's easy to get a good grade
Professor Tober's lectures are basically based off the online textbook so if you need to skip lecture, you can easily catch up. There are weekly discussions, 2 midterms, a final, and a paper assignment. The midterm and final are both take home online open notes and you have unlimited time to finish them, so overall easy A
I loved having prof Tober for SOC 1. Extremely easy GE and attendance was not mandatory. Her lectures were quite interesting though, so I enjoyed attending class. She tied course concepts with present real world events. Online tests, super easy and multiple choice. I wish every class was like this lol.
Prof. Tober is super nice and understanding. This class was really easy and had a pretty low workload (one 500-word forum post a week). Tests and papers are graded very generously and lectures are always entertaining. This class was a theory course, which is always kind of tedious, but she made it interesting with personal stories and jokes.
Professor Tober was really amazing and gave great lectures. She often used real-life examples or told us personal stories connecting to the topics we were studying, which made it much more enjoyable. Definitely one of my favorite professors here at UCSB! The work load was pretty average, as long as you stay on top of things, you will do well.
very fun! uses modern references to help clarify some ideas or terms. only one discussion due per week, 500 words and involving assigned readings. she gives partial credit on the midterm and also hands out possible questions before. final is a paper regarding a topic of your choice and analyzing with some theories, with no strict page requirement
Professor Tober made this class much easier to understand. We had 5 assignments total and a lot of time is giving to complete them, and we go over a lot of it in class and in section. Attendance is not mandatory but going to class would make it much easier. Shes the best!
One of my favorite professors at UCSB. Caring and always willing to help! Class is engaging! Weekly kahoot quizzes super fun and easy. Midterm was easy if you study. Book review and final were fine if you follow rubic and include course concepts.
Professor Tober's lectures are interesting and engaging. She clearly cares about the subject and her students. She's extremely understanding and a very fair grader. Our exams were both take home and open note and book. I took this as a prerequisite as I'm pre-soc, but I would recommend this to anyone needing an extra class.
Prof Tober was absolutely great and made me want to go to lecture every day. She has a tendency to go off on tangents, but her personality and care for the material makes the class super enjoyable regardless. Grading was based off a take home open internet midterm and final, one short paper, and easy weekly reflections. I would 100% take her again
Tober is super fun and her lectures are super easy to follow. I stopped attending lecture last few weeks and found that they were unnecessary to attend, but section is mandatory with a weekly paper due. my TA was a pretty harsh grader, but otherwise super easy online tests!
Tober is the one professor I've had that seems like she LOVES her job. We had 2 papers, 1 large book review paper, and a final creative project. Our TA was a very harsh grader, but Tober addressed the issues with grading honestly with us, and gave us the chance to fight for the grade we really deserved on papers, which I appreciated.
Graded on online midterm & final, section attendance, weekly forum posts, one paper. Don't BS forum posts; TAs grade fairly but they're not handing you an A. Tober very accommodating given TA strike. Very interesting & organized lectures. Don't know my grade yet (strike) but I think I did well; class was pretty easy and not very time consuming.
I have taken class with Tober before and It was great, class was easy and she is very considerate and understanding. There is kahoot quiz every Thursday based on NYT news, Two essays, midterm and a final creative project of your choice. One of the essays was a book review that I found challenging but everything else was pretty straight forward.
Dr. Tober is such a great professor 10/10 would recommend to any sociology major or anyone that is interested in sociology. She cares a lot about her students, weekly 500 word assignment super easy if you do the reading, one essay, and both midterm and final online multiple choice. I really enjoyed her class and her as a professor.
Love Dr. Tober! She genuinely looks like she loves what she does. Im never bored in her lectures and she always makes little jokes that lift up spirits. Work amount is chill by just completing 500word forum posts and occasional writing prompts but forums are exempted those weeks. She likes getting student feedback and applies it to her teaching.
Professor Tober's lectures are really interesting and although attendance is not mandatory, I still enjoyed going. There is one 500 word assignment per week and it is not graded harshly. Tober talks about many topics that are relevant to the world today and the exams given are very easy and on material covered in lecture.
Professor Tober is great! I have her for soc 1 at the moment, and she's super chill. Her lectures aren't mandatory, the weekly writing assignments are very straightforward(not bad), and it's a very easy gen ed. The lectures are interesting, and I love my ta for my soc 1 section. Reminds me a lot of ap psychology mixed with a history class. 10/10.
Overall she was a good professor. Attendance wasn't mandatory and it was easy to follow along if you weren't able to make it to class. She assigned 3 papers on social movements and weekly quizzes that were easy if you did the readings. I would take her again!
I've taken now 4 courses with Professor Tober. Took Soc 1 with her and it was this course that made me switch into the major. She's honestly amazing and is funny during her lectures. If you have the opportunity to take a class with her, DO IT! You won't regret it.
She was one of my favorite profs! great lecturer, easy 500 word assignments weekly and midterm snd final were very direct
Class is graded with discussion section, weekly forum posts (500 words), one big essay, a midterm and final. Midterm and final are straightforward; got 100% and 93% respectively. Tober is a great speaker; explains things clearly, tying back to personal anecdotes and sometimes jokes. Get TA Trevor A. if you can!
Prof. Tober was amazing that I changed my major to soc! Assignments were weekly posts (500 words) but not hard, just make sure to cite correctly! Section attendance is mandatory. The textbook helped me a lot, and each chapter was $1. 1 midterm, and 1 final + 1 essay on a sociological topic of your choice. Super interesting intro course to take!
