Reading is the core of the class. You need to read and stay on top of the readings to do well in the exams. Quizes are open notes and free A. The final exam is graded by your TA. I thought I did pretty good and got an A+ on the final. Midterm I thought I got an A+ and got an A-. So your entire grade is dependent on your TA. William is coated tho.
i loved this class! one of the easiest GE's that most people don't know about. he makes his lectures interesting, and although not structured, he's very passionate. i barely did any of the assigned readings but as long as you pay attention in class you'll be fine. easily graded midterm, weekly take home quizzes and final on a topic of your choosing
Prof. Elison is great! His classes are interactive and thought-provoking. There are assigned readings and online quizzes alongside a couple papers, but everything is pretty manageable. Attendance is important, and lectures are discussion-driven and informative. Take his class!
He is very passionate about the topic so the class is fun. The lectures are kinda confusing sometimes as there are no slides/powerpoints. He kinda just talks and the daily attendance and weekly quizzes are based on lecture information. So take really detailed notes during lectures. Participation during the lectures AND sections is mandatory.
I'll be honest, I wasn't a fan of his method of teaching (no powerpoints and info off the top of his head). Make sure you participate a lot in section since that's what brought my grade down.
Rg St 28 was a solid choice with Elison. Theres assigned readings every week but got away with only reading one of the books + two other short essays the entire time. 30% easy/fair midterm, 30% final research paper, essentially on a topic of your choice. Rambles in lecture but if you attend them youll be able to piece them together.
Very enthusiastic about material, 4 quizzes in total that were easy, midterm was fair - as long as you pay attention in class and take notes, you'll pass. Final is a paper on any topic of choice. I would recommend to anyone who needs to fulfill GE
absolutely love this lad. he makes lectures very fun and interesting. he assigns a lot of readings but they aren't difficult. exams are easy as long as you study and pay attention in lecture. theres a couple of extra credit opportunities as well.i personally didnt like my ta so only drawback of this class was going to section. would recommend!!!!!!
Professor Elison is great. Though his lectures don't have much structure the content is very interesting. He does fail to finish his planned lesson but you can tell he is so invested in what he is talking about that its okay. There is a lot of reading but again, for the most part, it is interesting. I would really recommend.
He is an awesome person, but he does not have any format for his class. there are no slide shows, no study guide. He rambles in class so you never know what is an important fact or just extra info. He never completes his intended lecture material. TA's grades your paper and exam. so if you get a bad one your out of luck.
Definitely a lot of reading, but most of it is pretty interesting. Elison and his lectures help to make the material even more enjoyable even if he finds himself running out of time. He's also really understanding when it comes to personal situations and gives extensions accordingly. I'm now minoring in religious studies because of this class.
Such a great professor. Really caring and knowledgable, as well as interesting. Didn't need to keep up with readings, but show up to lecture. Books are necessary for the take home final paper, 8-10 pgs. 4-5 pg. film paper, one small group project, and in-class midterm on vocab. SUCH an interesting class and even better guy.
DrElison is amazing! Super funny and chill. You dont have to do the reading but need the books for the final. Hes full of dad jokes but is an amazing lecturer. In class test final and take Home essay 8-10 pages. One 4-5 page film essay.
