Dr. Bridges took this course over when Professor Cast passed away before the start of the term. I was devastated about Dr. Cast. But he was so wonderful, clearly cared about us, his lectures were really fascinating and helped connect all of the material in the class. I ended up learning more in this class than any other Soc class I've ever taken.

Sociology of Privilege has been my favorite class I've taken at UCSB. Professor Bridges is an engaging lecturer and the class is structured really well in which each week focuses on a different aspect of privilege. The midterm and final were challenging but doable and the essays came with a lot of guidance which was super helpful.

This is easily the best class I've taken in college. Dr. Bridges is the best teacher I've had at UCSB. His lectures are so good and the research we learned about was so interesting. There are weekly quizzes (not too hard), two papers (but he gives lots of directions), and a midterm and final exam. The exams were challenging, but fair. GREAT course.

Dr. Bridges is an amazing professor and the sociology of privilege was an awesome course. Really helpful for understanding different forms of inequality with very current readings and research.

This was the most interesting course I took in college. It was my last quarter of classes at UCSB. The lectures were so amazing. It's honestly a course that changed the way I look at the world. Be prepared to read a lot, but Dr. Bridges helps connect all of the readings and helps you figure out what you need to get from them to do well in class.

This was Dr. Bridges's Sociology of Privilege class and it was easily the best course I have taken in college. The lectures were amazing and connected all of the readings we read this quarter in a way that sort of forced me to rethink what I thought I knew about privilege basically every week. I wish I could retake it.

I loved this class. Weekly reading quizzes that were not too challenging. The bulk of my grade was based on two papers and a final. For both papers, Dr. Bridges gave us super helpful directions and discussed both projects in class. I made a movie trailer for the final with a short paper. It was a fun way to end a great class.

By far, the *best* professor at UCSB. Took his Special Topics course so I didn't know what I was getting into. Turned out to be Sociology of Privilege and he carefully planned out each one of the readings which were so amazing. His passion and amazing lecturing skills made me want to ride my bike to class even when it was pouring rain outside.

Assigns a lot of papers so be ready to write

Assigns so much papers. Last two weeks of class there was 6 page was due one week then the next week a 5 page. I don't know why he chooses to flood students with so much work. Take this class if you enjoy writing essays. No leniency for late work. He is a nice person but it was not an enjoyable class. 500 words weekly discussion forum posts

I really like SOC185G and the lectures are always so interesting! The only thing I have to say is his grading criteria does seem to be really tough, and his policy on late work is a bit harsh. No makeups for quizzes and you can lose a lot of points for late essays. Understandable, but just a warning to stay on top of things!

red flag is that the mandatory book was written by him, just reiterating his own lecture material. not available to students for help, didn't answer emails during weeks where papers were due. no feedback given for papers. interesting material but the unresponsiveness makes it hard to be successful in the class

Prof Bridges is an outstanding professor, being one who is extremely driven in his field of study. The things we learned about were very interesting. Although, I will say that the class was not as enjoyable due to the amount of papers that were assigned, on top of weekly assignments as well. During a pandemic, course load should have been way less.

Professor Bridges is the most intuitive, kind professor I've had at UCSB thus far. It has been extremely difficult having to adjust to everything being online due to Covid-19. He has been so understanding of this, giving extensions when needed. Not to mention, his lectures are extremely interesting. He's one smart cookie. Take this class!

I took Soc 159 as a summer course and the class itself was interesting but I don't think the professor did anything to accommodate for students impacted by Covid. Not only did we have the same amount of course load as a regular 10 week course but we also had to do an interview of a man ages 30-65 which in unfair during a pandemic.

Hands down one of the best professors I've has at UCSB. Bridges made class fun to go to, was funny, and his passion for the subject at hand really shines through. Attendance is mandatory but there are no in class tests, only online reading quizzes and a few papers rather than a midterm and final. Highly recommend taking a class from him!

Most definitely the best professor I've had at UCSB... he is hilarious and his lectures are extremely engaging (aka you won't ever fall asleep) You sign in each class so attendance is important. There are no in-class tests, but you write 3-4 papers + weekly online reading quizzes. You gotta put in the work, but the info you gain will stick with you

I really liked his Men & Masculinity class! There were a lot of writing assignments but they aren't too bad and actually kind of enjoyable if you're into the topic.

I really loved this course and wasnt planning on it. Dr. Bridgess lectures are important and help you do better on papers and assignments. But theyre also really inspiring. He seems to genuinely care about the students. This was easily one of my best courses in college. Smart guy.
