Really kind and caring professor! You can clearly see that she wants her students to do well in her course. I really liked her lecture style of class participation while she navigates the conversation and adds in her own points. She does have weekly assignments every week but they're fairly easy and she has a very generous late work policy.
Did not like her teaching style. Ability to convey material challenged by strange outlook on life.
Trish is a great feminist prof! Class is only graded on 3 papers and weekly discussion responses. She is very understanding and provides good feedback on papers. She was very lenient and respected our needs for extensions and what not. Go to lecture, participate weekly in the forum, and youll pass.
Fancher is a nice professor who tries her best to help you. There are lots of assignments and you really need to work hard, but it's all worth it. When you don't know what to do, just come to office hours and ask for help.
No tests, only papers, and works with you to edit and improve them
You have to create two websites; an individual website to submit blog post assignments (2-3/week) and a group project website on a story. No clear rubric on how she graded blog post/reading responses (where/why you lost points) until the end of the quarter when it is too late to improve in those areas. She is really nice and wants you to pass.
She is a very friendly and caring professor! That being said, I wouldn't take this class unless you really enjoy feminist studies because she goes overboard on the workload and assigns unnecessary busywork. No clear rubric and grading is somewhat arbitrary. More lenient grader on writing w/ opinions + experiences she resonates with.
Really wants students to get an A in her class; truly a kind and caring professor. I dont love writing but she made the class worth it.
Best professor at UCSB! Teaches you really applicable things
The SWEETEST professor at UCSB. Truly cares for her students and wants to see you do well. I would take her for every class if I could! It's a fair amount of work but nothing over the top- truly doable
Assings a lot, but allows you to redo your assignments for a higher grade. She wants to see you're working hard, and if you do, it's a fair A. A fair amount of work, yes, but worth it because of how great she is with students. There's also lots of freedom to pursue what you write about.
Kindest teacher ever. She expects you do to your best, but will work with you. She is the most approachable, friendly teacher. She truly cares about her students.
Assigns way too much HW for a Writing 2 class. Not approachable and is unclear in her grading criteria. The subject matter discussed during class time is repetitive and boring. Would highly recommend taking another professor.
Toooooo much homework Really strict grader
Looking for an easy professor to fulfill WRIT 2? Then don't take this professor. We wrote 3 writing projects (1000-1500 words each), a writing portfolio, and 2 daily blogs every week. Other professors assigned 2 papers. Attendance is mandatory. You'll also be marked absent if you use your phone in class or if you're 5 mins late to class.
I absolutely loved Prof. Fancer. She is very sweet and you can tell that she really cares that all of her students do well. If you need to take Writing 2, I highly recommend taking it with her! The class isn't the easiest (lots of writing, duh) but she's always accessible and ready to help if you just ask.
One of the best teachers I've had at UCSB! Truly cares about her students. I've taken multiple writing classes with her (even in writing subjects I'm not fond of) simply to have her as a teacher again. Really makes you think outside the box and encourages you to be yourself and follow your passion.
