The lecture is clear and logical, but you need to spend some time study and practice the material. Smart guy and best prof in pstat department

A solid professor. The material is very hard but he's pretty clear and his tests are pretty fair if you study. He also makes funny comments sometimes which is rare for a stats teacher.

For people who listen to lectures, finish homework and ask questions, getting an A is not hard. He really curves a lot if the tests are difficult and he drops a lot of lowest quizzes. For other people, just avoid taking PSTAT 170 if you want to get a good grade.

Decent teacher and knowledgeable but tests (worth 80% of final grade) and grading scale are brutal. Roughly half the class received a C- or lower, a third being F's. I took 170 before this and still struggled on his tests. The material is no difficult for upper div pstat, take this class with someone who make it excessively difficult.

Not extremely hard, Chen was the biggest obstacle for this class. Unfairly graded, test material way harder than HW and not enough material to study or reference to. Kind of hard to understand him, his lecturing is all over the place, even his test questions are worded funny. I would avoid if possible.

He was a clear lecturer when teaching the material. He gives about 5 homework throughout the quarter, and 3 quizzes in sections. The midterm and final were both very difficult in comparison to our homework assignments and book problems. The scores were low but he did end up curving the overall scores a little bit. Overall, a really tough class.

so Nice he is. The best prof I have met. Very logical lecture and always answer your questions until you understand it clearly. Handwriting blackboard notes and no posting. I WANT TO TAKE HIS COURSES MORE AND MORE.

Completely changed my perspective and idea of what I wanted to do. This professor would throw curveballs on the test and would test us on ideas never covered in class. If FMS or Actuary Major, I highly recommend avoiding this professor at all costs.

1 HW and 1 quiz a week. I really would recommend buying chegg because I found the material difficult. The midterm was insane but he made up for it with an easy/average final. He's a pretty good lecturer in my opinion. Don't be intimidated by the class, there were times where I felt really stupid. I worked really hard and got a 100% overall grade.

I take his 170 class. He is a nice professor with very clear lecture. You can not only learn many final math knowledge but also get many examples from the real company issues which are very interesting. But if you want to get a good grade, you need read book and do homeworks.

Amazing Professor. Very helpful and tries his best to accommodate to student's needs. Class can be difficult if you don't try but if you do then it is definitely easy to get an A. Textbook not needed, just make sure you have the concepts down and do all of your homework and attend lectures.

Clear+detailed lecture followed up with many examples. Midterm and quizzes are directly from HW/Midterm problem (might change the numbers/stories a bit). Be aware, a lot of the times he's late to office hours. Other than that, he is a great professor.

He is a very good teacher. The lecture is very clear. Every week we have a quiz, but the question are all from homework. So, if you do the homework, you will be fine in the quiz.
