christian was a great professor for writ 50, the classes were long (about 2 hrs) but discussions were very fun and he is great at making every student feel included. grade is mostly based on the final research project but you get more than enough time in class/out of class to work on it and he doesn't grade harshly. one of my fav classes

I took 109 with Thomas and it was super chill. Lots of weekly assignments but they're pretty easy and fun (mostly discussion posts or short writings). Big paper due at the end but he really guides you through the process and gives you a lot of creative freedom/flexibility.

Professor Thomas is the best! The class is fun and deals a lot with gaming not just writing so its overall super interesting! Weekly hw is easy and doable and the end project is make your own game and an essay about it. No mid or final exam. He is one of the most accommodating, lenient, caring teachers Ive ever had at UCSB. Take him if you can!!!

This is a great class, especially if you like interactive media (which I personally do). There's a lot of homework and big projects (presentation, your own game, research paper) plus lots of smaller assignments. But the big ones aren't so intimidating because you do things in pieces through the quarter, and get help on the way. Highly recommend!

Took this class with him and Prof Moser for Arthist 6A. Awesome guy! Encouraged participation, and is very sweet. Really enjoyed his sections because of how engaging he was. He is very understanding and is always willing to help!

I like Prof Thomas, I am a better writer now I think anyay with this class but the essays are hard to get an A. You can't revise the last paper that has the most points and he cares about punctuation and grammar so is hard for international students. Most people I know did not get an A.

He made me enjoy English/writing classes again because of his loose requirements when it came to writing. Our class theme was fairy tales. You had to keep a weekly journal which were basically free points. The essays that you had to write were very easy and help you find your writing style. You also had to make a blog post which was super easy.

He's so nice and passionate about the subject. You are graded on class journal (basically, were you in class) and the homework assignments (which are pretty minor) and only one major assignment which is the final paper. You write about any movie/TV show/video game that you choose. It's a great class and a very reasonable amount of work

You write write write in this class. Get help with grammar if an international student or your grade won't be so good. I liked this class, it was interesting. Get ready to watch some old movies, some scary ones and some weird ones.

Prof. Thomas is one of the nicest and kindest instructors at UCSB. I reached out to him out of desperation for a personal matter and he helped me with all he can. He is an angel. Just take his class, you wont regret it.

I was nervous about this class because I've never been a great writer but Thomas prepares you so well for the papers (2 of them). Very interesting and entertaining classes I was always excited to go. Gives great feedback. Felt proud of my writing after I was done with his class. Super nice guy and is always glad to work with you.

There's a huge paper and smaller papers and online posts and you have to be formal and get grammar straight with all that, but the class is also kinda interesting. I feel like I watch movies differently now, which is cool and I see things I never saw before. You read a couple screenplays, too. That made me want to be a screenwriter SMH!

You give 2 big speeches and lots of short spontaneous ones, plus you do an essay on something about public speaking at the end. So it's lots of writing but you're not bored in class, there's lots you get to do instead of just listening to a professor talk. Prof Thomas is really nice but a hard grader, you have to make sure to edit edit edit!

If you like learning about movies this is a good class. Prof Thomas is very nice but hard grader for papers (grammar, etc). You have to participate or you get downgraded too. But the class has a good feeling and that makes participating easier.

I learned so much in this class! You write speeches and you learn how to make good powerpoints. There's a lot of work but if you like writing and learning about how to give speeches, it's a great class that can help you with your confidence and your future job.

You watch old movies mostly and some weird ones but you also get to choose which ones you want to analyze for reviews and papers. This class takes time and work but it's kinda fun too.

Hes really nice and you do a lot of activities so its not boring BUT theres A LOT of writing. I had to work hard. I had fun though and learned some things. If you work hard and grammar is good you can get an A. But I know people who didn't get an A because of grammar and other things. But you learn things that help your writing.

Literally one of the best professors at UCSB. I took Writing 2 with him and now I am taking an upper division writing class with him. He is such a genuine and respectful guy. Class discussions are interesting and assignments are very open and creative. Go to class and do the discussion forums (which are fun to do) and you will definitely get an A.

Christian is one of the best professors I've had in my four years at UCSB. Such a kind soul and actually assigns cool readings/ assignments. He's very interested in what students want to write about. Seriously, I wrote two papers on Game of Thrones. It was awesome. Wish I could take more classes with him.

Not a harsh grader, very accessible. I always looked forward to his class. Workload very manageable, if you do what is assigned you will probably get an A.

Seriously the nicest instructor I have ever had! He gave us very interesting, reasonable and accessible reading materials, usually about video games or things going on in mass media. He made the class actually enjoyable, which isn't easy with writing! you'll want to hug him
