DO NOT TAKE HIM. He is boring, and uninteresting.. I was excited to take his ethics class and absolutely hated that class. He just stands there and talks and talks foes off track and talks to himself about the most useless, dull, and poor examples ever. Everyone is falling asleep in the class. Vague and Unknowledgeable
Daniel means well but sometimes expectations for assignments are vague and you're left wondering whether or not you actually completed the assignments to the greatest extent. He is very accessible and gives lots of feedback, you just have to ask him questions to understand what he expects. Had interesting lectures and approached material very well.
This was my second class with Daniel, the other was more typical philosophy class. The class itself is useful, but more mechanical than other intro phil classes. Daniel is a great professor who will talk with you individually, not just about the course (I read a lot of existentialism and we talked about that). Go to lecture and office hours.
The class is super easy and I recommend it if you would like an easy A. Story is just particularly annoying and pretentious. He literally stands at the front of the class and reads from the textbook. He will also talk so long that you will get through maybe 4 slides in a 50 minute period. If you can, take this class with another professor.
I heard from a friend that Phil 3 was a fun class but I thought otherwise. Lectures are very boring, many students are just on their phones the entire time. TAs made the class manageable though. Section attendance is mandatory. There is a quiz for every unit we cover. Book not needed but helpful. Midterm and final are super long but not tedious.
For phil3 you really don't need the book as long as you pay attention in lecture but it can help if you don't understand things. Daniel's generally pretty good at explaining but some things he goes too fast on but you can ask questions in class and he takes time to answer all questions before continuing on. He's strict but not rude.
Daniel was a great Phil lecturer - very concise with what he talked about, and good at making it clear what would be on exams. Had a big problem with people talking in class - to the point where it could get kind of distracting. Overall an easy time if you're math-y and may require a bit of work to adapt to a new mindset of thinking if not.
Daniel Story was overall a great professor!! He does occasionally get a little sidetracked in lectures and spends too long on certain topics but he explains concepts really clearly. The course is definitely exam heavy, and if logic isn't your forte then doing the textbook's practice problems are a must.
Have to put in the work for your grade book is essential if you want a decent grade. Lectures are boring and he tends to get side tracked a lot. Super helpful one on one recommend going to office hours.
I found that Daniel Story made Phil 3 fun! He paces the quarter excellently and makes sure that students have a grasp of difficult content. This is not an easy A if you don't do the practice problems in the book- so this course requires a little extra work out of lecture. I would recommend Story to anyone who wants to genuinely understand phil!
Loved this class! Easy A if you are a logical/mathy person. Daniel is a decent teacher (a little bit of a temper), but overall I would recommend. Go to all lectures, read textbook, and do textbook practice problems and you should get an A.
Do not take phil 3 with him!!! Nice enough guy but he makes the class complicated and way harder than it needs to be. Ive talked to many people who have taken it with a different prof and their whole class was on the topics we had only before the midterm! Take with a different prof!
I love this class and the prof! He's kinda funny and is more than willing to help you, he stayed with me after lecture to answer one of my questions. Midterm was super easy and many of the problems were taken directly from the lecture slide examples. Honestly, you don't NEED the textbook but the practice problems are extremely helpful.
Daniel was a great professor who made lectures as interesting as possible. He would listen to and answer any questions students had during class and made sure to provide lots of examples to better demonstrate the material. Midterm was a bit confusing, but if you read most of the material and go to lecture the you should do really well!
Easy enough class, but he never seemed to have a full grasp on the information he was presenting. Anyone who challenged him in class was quickly dismissed. He would constantly answer questions with "we'll get to that later," then fail to answer the question or bring up the subject again. Midterm questions were widely misunderstood and vague.
The most knowledgeable TA I have ever meet. He knows exactly what to say for a concept that confuses a ton of us. Really helping and can explain hard concepts in a couple of short sentences. Be aware as he is really tough grading papers, but if you talk to him then he tells you exactly what to write on the paper so go to his office hours!
Daniel is by far one of the sweetest TAs in the Phil department. However, he's also a stickler when it comes to grading. Overall, if you're willing to put in the work, you should be fine. He goes out of his way to help you too so don't hesitate in asking him for help.
