Professor Badamo was excellent. We had weekly readings that were easy to understand and informative, and the lectures followed the readings. The course included 2-3 exams, and she provided a helpful study guide for each. We were also assigned a group project at the end of the quarter, which I enjoyed.
Sort of baffled by the bad reviews. I thought her lectures were clear, and she was very interested in our success. You really do have to take good notes, and pay attention to the readings (1/week), but I didn't find it more difficult than usual. Study guides are extremely similar to the actual test. She is clearly passionate about this subject.
I took ARTHI105Q and I really enjoyed the content. The lectures were easy to follow and she provided outlines before. There were 2 midterms (so easy) MCQ, SA and vocab matching. The final was a group presentation but she gave you plenty of time to work on it. Reading is important and shows up on tests. But overall really great class.

I know that a lot of student's don't like professor Badamo but I've taken a couple classes with her now and although she isn't the most warm and fuzzy professor, she knows what she is teaching and she genuinely cares that her students do well. Develop a relationship with her, ask questions, attend lectures, pay attention and you'll do well.
I found the class content interesting and thought out. However, she is not organized. Her course reader was late and a mess, the articles she forgot, she posts with little time to read. Her exam questions seem subjective and unclear, but her expectation is perfect recall. I wouldn't voluntarily take her class again, but if I had to I would survive
Do yourself a favor and refrain from taking any of her classes. Although she is clearly passionate about her subject of study, she is a genuinely atrocious professor and her plethora of negative reviews here conveys that. Her lectures lack concise direction and purpose. Feedback is confusing at best. Entirely unresponsive to emails.
The content of this class might not be the most interesting, but Professor Badamo gave really good lectures. The grading is also very clear and the tests are straight from lectures. Make sure to attend lectures and participate, it is a part of your grade.
Favorite professor at UCSB. Super knowledgeable, funny, kind, and helpful to the students that dont understand. Very well organized class. Simple assignments that are accessible to all students. Lectures are packed with fascinating information. She even took us to special collections to look at real artifacts. Overall a great experience. 10/10!
She's a coherent and knowledgeable lecturer. A little icy though, wouldn't take again unless I had to.
Incredibly knowledgeable and made her subject very interesting to me, someone who isnt an Art History buff/fanatic. Highly recommend you take her class if possible.
Favorite professor I've had so far. She's so knowledgeable and so nice. She really wants to see her students succeed and she has an awesome nerdy sense of humor that is very present in her lectures. Make sure you go to class and do the work but if you do you'll be fine. Very clear expectations and very fair grading.
She knows the subject very well and tries to be as clear as possible but sometimes fails. She's very unorganized and the powerpoints don't help. Jumps from one topic to another then back to the first topic. 2 papers, a midterm, a final. TAs grade the papers harshly (or at least mine did). Not horrible but wouldn't take this prof again.
Prof Badamo might be one of the worst professors I've had. She's passionate about the subject and you can tell she loves teaching it. However, the content is so dry and you learn 5 major things each lecture and she expects you to be an expert on the exams. Your TA grades everything so your grade depends on them. Hard, but P/NP is a good option.
She gets an undeservingly bad reputation as a professor in my opinion. From my experience, she is very receptive to the opinions and needs of her lecture, more so than any other professor I've had. Her lectures are somewhat dry but she tries her best to keep it interesting. If you email her with questions or ask for help you are sure to get it.
Very difficult to figure out what will be on the test. She tries to make study guides for exams, but they hardly help. Reading is optional if you attend lecture. Lecture includes lots of details that readings won't cover and lecture slides are not posted online. iClickers are 10% of your grade. Essays are somewhat challenging to answer.
Not the worst professor I've had but certainly nowhere near the best. Lecture slides with text are only available during lecture as she does not post the full powerpoint online. She moves fast, so type your notes and not write them, as you will not be able to get everything down in time. It is difficult to decipher what is important and what isn't.
WHERE DO I BEGIN. By far one of the worst classes I have taken at UCSB. She is a complete mess. Her lectures are disorganized. Objectives are unclear. She puts the lecture slides on Gaucho Space but are useless because there's only pictures. Her final exam was completely unorganized and MUCH more difficult than the midterm.
Professor Badamo is an amazing professor and she really goes out of her way to help students for exams. She always posts detailed lecture outlines before class and these are great to use as study guides. She covers a lot of material and so beware but the midterm/final has a lot of variety. Highly recommend taking her.
By far the worst class I have ever taken at UCSB. Professor Badamo is absolutely clueless. She clearly has no idea about what she is teaching. The class is completely unorganized, it is unclear at all times what is needed to be done. I learned absolutely nothing, it wasn't even worth the GE credit. STAY AWAY FROM THIS CLASS.
Lectures are really long and never goes over a powerpoint completely. She is unorganized and makes subjects completely boring. Her jokes are not funny at all.
Avoid this professor. The subject matter is not interesting, she has a confusing and boring way of lecturing. Hard tests and grades strictly. Expects everyone to be a professional art historian when in reality the majority of the class does not care about the subject.
Very unorganized, never finished lectures on time, awkward jokes here and there. Overall, I do not recommend this professor. Seemed to talk down on other's that didn't know what she was talking about. My TA honestly saved my grade and was my only source of clarity for the course.
Really easy pass no pass class if you took ArtHi in HS. But I wouldn't take if you didn't. Never went to lecture and studied 2 hours before both exams and passed. Could have gotten easy A if I Tried and didn't do p/np. She's horrible lecture and teacher, super confusing, reads from book, and awkward. Couldn't stand going to class so I didn't.
