An A in the class is hard, but a B+ is easy. Of the GE's I took, this was by far my favorite. You need to show up to lecture, but you learn so many interesting things. There is a lot of material outside that you need to read in order to be prepared for midterms. Section is optional. Overall one of the most useful classes I have taken for a GE.

One of the best professors/teachers I've ever had. His lectures were always so interesting and relevant. I will say the readings are quite lengthy (130-160 pages on average)but definitely don't skip them because they come up on exams!

Honestly my favorite professor and favorite class. Prof Park is organized, passionate about the subject, understanding, and inspiring. Everyone says the readings were long (100-150pgs) but they are all relevant to his lectures. Definitely keep up with the readings and never leave them to the last minute. Also, he brings candy/cookies to exams. :)

Professor Park is amazing! He kept me engaged and interested in lecture throughout the entire quarter. This class has no homework besides assigned readings. Which is great because it can done on your own time, but you definitely have to work hard to do well on the midterms and final!

Professor Park is my favorite professor at our school. His lectures and presentations are perfect and he loves to ask the class to give personal thoughts on the subject. He is definitely my favorite professor on campus. The readings were lengthy but if you attend lecture, you should do great. He loves it when students attend office hours.

Professor Park is the best professor I've ever had! He cares so much about his students, is extremely understanding and adaptable, and asks thoughtful, honest questions. He grades really fairly and lectures in a way that really tells a story. I took this class to fulfill a Global Studies requirement and was shocked by how much I loved it.

My favorite class at UCSB so far. Professor Park is obviously very passionate about the subject and is a fantastic lecturer--super organized and engaging. 100-150 pages of reading per week, but I got away with skimming most of them. If the topic really interests you I recommend taking the honors section; Park's a really cool guy to get to know.

Professor Park is awesome. Took ASAM2 first quarter of freshman year and got a B. Lots of reading involved. It helps to memorize court cases and immigration policies. Midterms and finals are in-class essays. I found it difficult to reflect all you had learned through the few essay prompts assigned as the final. Regardless, very interesting class.

Park made it seem like this class was easy, but it wasn't. The readings were hard to get through, and that's saying something since i'm an avid reader. I recommend going to every office hour and ask him detailed questions about the essay prompts.

John Park is a great professor. I really enjoyed ASAM 2 because it was very contemporary and interesting. There is a lot of reading and 2 midterms plus the final which are all written. Although its not easy, i found it extremely rewarding.

So this class is super boring and isn't interesting at all (to me and many others), but Professor Park is super cool and tells good stories to interrupt lectures which is nice.

I took this course expecting for it to be a painful GE, but it turned out to be an interesting class with a great professor. He's not going to hand you an A, but he is very helpful and will give you help if you come to his office hours.

Park is my favorite, I took it as a GE & loved it. Reading is online pdfs. He makes lecture really interesting, he brings candy-cookies on some test days, makes hilarious jokes about his kids, & is good at connecting old lectures to new lectures. There are two midterms & final, essays for all. Prepare for tons of reading!! Essential for essays.

This was my first college class and I almost dropped because of the scary amount of reading and the fact that they were all scholarly essays. DON'T. Ended up being very interesting and thought provoking. Ended up with an A- by doing all readings and attending most lectures.

Thought I would hate this class bc of all the readings, but I ended up loving this class. Park is a great prof and you can tell he is very passionate about this subject. Midterms aren't too bad tbh, just read the articles and pay attention in lecture. BTW no textbook, he posts the readings online. He likes to say "yeah" a lot when he lectures lol.

I was originally annoyed about needing to take an ethnicity GE. Dr. Park ended up being my favorite professor at UCSB. I wish I took this class my freshman year because it really whips you into shape and transitions you from the slacker high schooler mindset into a hardworking college student. Read his teaching philosophy and you'll understand.

Lots of reading. Not even joking. Trust me you don't want to take it. If you are lazy and you don't want to read them all there is a trick. Each midterm is based off of the last 3 weeks. He gives you 3 questions (each from 1 of the articles in each week) and you choose two. Therefore, you can just read all the articles for just 2 weeks and skip 1.

Fantastic professor, has chocolate at office hours, and is completely willing to take an interest in your personal life and future aspirations. Readings are completely essential to doing well in the course, but if you're in college get ready to read regardless. If you want to go to lawgrad school he will gladly advise you. Highly recommend.

Professor Park is awesome. I took this class thinking I would hate it but I actually loved it. There is a lot of reading but if you schedule yourself to one reading a night it isn't unbearable. The Midterms were fairly easy but very direct questions about the readings. Same with the final. Also, Malaphone is the greatest TA for this class.

This class involves LOTS of readings! If you don't like reading semi-boring stuff don't take this class, because if you skip reading you won't pass the midtermsfinal. ATTEND LECTURE!! Professor Park goes over some key issues in the readings that makes the material easier to understand! Discussion is an optional 10%, which you need to do!

There is SO much reading that you absolutely have to do. The exams are based off of the reading and you need to know specific legislation and details. DO NOT LEAVE READING 'TIL THE LAST MINUTE AND MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND IT! But other than that, Prof. Park is very enthusiastic and personable. He clearly knows and likes what he's talking about.

Park is absolutely amazing!!! The lectures are very interesting. There is a lot of reading, but TA's and office hours are a great way to really understand the readings if the material is confusing. I began going to office hours towards the end of the quarter, but I know if I would have started going sooner an A would have been manageable.
