Marion Labatut is one of, if not, the most amazing professor I have ever had at UCSB. She is a light in the classroom and inspires students to have a good time while learning. I woke up each morning happy to attend her class which made participation easy! I highly recommend her for any French course.
Marion is an amazing professor! You can tell how much passion and work she has put into the class from the preparation she did for every class. And you will master the grammar if you listen carefully in class. She is also caring and fun. Très bonne prof !
One of the rare teachers who actually cares about her students and makes sure they're understanding what's been taught. Also flexible with deadlines because she understands that students are usually pressed for time. 10/10 would recommend taking her class.
Marion has a big heart and cares deeply for her students. Sometimes she can be a bit aggressive but it's never with malintent, she just wants to see that you are trying and care about your work. She is also a bit strict but it balances out with how relatively cool and down to Earth she is. Marion really is the best french professor to learn under!
I took 3 straight quarters of French(FR4-6) with Marion so I am hella biased. That said, she was the best teacher I could have asked for. She is a passionate, caring, and understanding teacher and she really helped me learn the language! She creates a very welcome and inviting classroom so asking questions and trying to learn was highly encouraged
Marion is one of the most enthusiastic and honest professors youll ever have the pleasure of meeting. Going above and beyond the textbook to French culture, she encourages creativity and integrates humour into every class. Despite the demands of the program, she ensures any student had the chance to succeed as long as you show interest.
Marion is the best! She really cares about her students, both in terms of their French and their well-being. She's willing to work with you on things outside the classroom, and she's incredible at teaching French. She's so passionate about her subject, but she doesn't make her class too hard and sets her students up to succeed. She's amazing!
Marion is an amazing professor. Got back to learning french after a year break and she made me realize why i loved learning a different language. Do the work and you'll do fine in the class. She is very accessible and did I mention, she is just an amazing and fun professor overall!
I think I wrote more compositions for this class than I did for my actual writing requirement classes. Marion is fun, and a good teacher; the class subject is a little dry though, just a lot of grammar, barely any speaking practice.
Marion is an amazing teacher, one of the best french teachers I've had at UCSB. I am considering a french minor so I'm excited to take more classes with her in the future. She is very helpful and understanding, she always makes class fun and truly cares about her students 10/10 would recommend !!!!
I really enjoyed taking French 2 from Marion. I have experience in many other language classes at UCSB and abroad in French and German. I found her to truly care about student progression. A native speaker teaching a language adds a critical component to comprehension and understanding. Her enthusiasm made the rapid pace of summer tolerable.
I loved her as a teacher, 10/10 recommend taking her class if you have the chance. She is helpful, adorable, and kind. She made me want to continue in the French minor and to study abroad in France. Focuses on grammar a lot but I think that is important anyways in order to understand the language and know your French. I'd love to take another class

She is a really good professor, approachable, friendly and knows her stuff. Office hours help any confusion about any grammar or anything. Super chill and helpful in knowing cultural aspects of french life (she's from paris so yeah).

I absolutely love Marion! She truly cares about students and is always willing to explain things more than once. Super funny, authentic Parisian and SO cute! If a class is taught by her, don't even hesitate to take it. Marion is a superb professor and person, and she still remembers me whenever I pass by her and say hi. Participation will help you!
Marion is amazing! She is straight from France so she knows the ins and outs of the language. Also pretty lenient with her grading and super informative. If you have the option, choose marion!
She is amazing! Super nice and helpful. I've heard complaints by students who constantly come in late and don't show up. She believes in you and LOVES when you participate. When it comes to Chez Nous, I got the online version that comes with My French Lab which was $80 vs $300 and she was okay with that.
I took her for French 2 and was blown away by her teaching professionalism, her incredible patience, and her warmth as a professor. She explained everything in great detail, gave countless examples for everything, and would write every single thing she would say on the board in order for students to visualize the material. Superb professor.
Marion is a really great professor. I took her class for French 2 and she was extremely helpful. Her class was not boring and she explained everything clearly. The course itself is not so hard but you really have to focus and memorize what you have learned.
She is very detailed in her descriptions and explanations. She meticulously explains the nuances of idiomatic phrases. Even though she is quirky, she can be extremely professional. Even though some of the material is tough and needs re-explaining, she doesn't get frustrated and make you feel bad for asking EVER! She is a real Parisienne!
