Attendance to Class isn't mandatory, however, section attendance is. Zach teaches this class in a way that is so easy to grasp. He truly is an amazing professor. I didn't do the reading because I went to lecture so its kind of a switch off. if you don't go to class make sure you read.

Rentz is a wonderful professor who is passionate about philosophy and loves his job. The class is pretty easy, if you do the readings and homework it isn't really necessary to attend lecture but Rentz is a great lecturer and super funny so you should just attend anyway. Do all the practice problems in the book and you'll ace the class.

Literally my favorite human on the planet. He is an AMAZING professor that captures everyone's interest, whether it be in office hours or a 300 person class. He breaks down content incredibly well, PowerPoints are accessible online, and he is completely there to help you learn. Best teacher I've had hands down. Hilarious too.

Zach was one of the best professors I have had at UCSB. He made lectures entertaining and promoted participation and questions. He was accessible outside of class, and helped you understand material one on one. He really wanted students to succeed in his class and outlined it so it was easily achievable to do well if you followed instructions.

Great professor. He breakdown each topic well and gives good examples to help students develop a better understanding of critical thinking. He also takes into consideration what students want out of the class and adjusts it to fit the curriculum.

Rentz is a really cool guy. Lectures are slightly repetitive but that's not really a bad thing. He plays good music as you walk in and is enthusiastic about a subject that could potentially be boring. He walks around and encourages participation in lecture. Easily accessible outside of class and clearly cares about his students.

Good teacher, good guy, good class, good content. All around good.

This is my first quarter as a transfer to UCSB and I am convinced Zach Rentz will remain my favorite professor throughout my entire career here. I've never had a teacher that so brilliantly combined passion, humor, encouragement, and intelligence. Wants everyone to succeed, super accessible outside of class. Awesome guy with great taste in music.

Hands down one of the best classes I've ever taken. Zach makes the class fun and I never find myself checking to time to see when lecture ends. The course itself is extremely straightforward and very easy to understand. I recommend taking notes on the readings from the textbook so that lectures can help more with clarification of the material

Zach is an amazing professor! He is entertaining, kind, and extremely passionate about the work he does. Everyone at UCSB should take his class he is that phenomenal. He posts the slides online but going to lecture will help you succeed (and give you more time to hangout with Zach). 2 papers, 1 midterm and 1 final.

Hands down one of the coolest and best professors I've had so far. Walked into some really cool music every day; no textbook needed b/c all the readings are uploaded to GauchoSpace. His lectures were always interesting, including the time he allowed for questions and discussion between students in lecture. Wish I could take again, 10/10 recommend!

Professor Rentz has great taste in music, excellent hair, and was an exceptional instructor. It's a winning combination. I had coffee with him several times during office hours and it was clear he wanted to help me succeed. 10/10 would recommend to everyone I know.

I've never rated any professors during my four years at UCSB. I feel compelled to write this one because Professor Rentz is the best professor I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. He is exceptionally brilliant and truly cares about his students' success. His lectures were funny, captivating, and inspiring. Take this class before you graduate!!!

Approachable both in lecture and otherwise, funny, and excellent at making dense topics interesting and understandable. Also awesome at relating to students, as he's still a grad student himself (at the time I wrote this). Also +10 pts for no textbook; all readings are pdfs.

I had Zach as a TA for Phil 4 and I really liked him. He broke down difficult topics from lecture to make them more clear. He's also super funny so that makes his class enjoyable. I did some of the readings and worked hard on my essays and I got an A. Going to office hours will definitely help you out in his class.
