I loved taking Noah's class. It was super engaging and incredibly interesting and continued to feed my passion for the classics. I really appreciated how much he made me think more deeply about something that i'd studied before and would've loved to take more classes from him
Sooo caring. A post here said that his lectures were inaccessible so this quarter, he kept his lectures up. Quizzes were short and usually on lecture material, def take notes on the Latin vocab. Noah actually makes me excited to watch lecture. He's enthusiastic about it and it shows. LOVE this class. His wife is his TA and they're so cute.
This class was the only class I've really looked forward to this whole quarter! It's super laid-back and accommodating since it's async. Reading is supplemental but not required. He's engaging and makes the course really entertaining! You choose either weekly posts or an essay, and MC midterm and final. Would recommend you take him for any course!!
UCSB got lucky with this guy. He is so passionate about the material and will make YOU passionate about it, too. Interesting material, great lecturer, very cool guy and he is so nice. Take his class if you can; he deserves the world!!
Professor Segal is a great professor who definitely had a sense of humor and a relaxed atmosphere in his lectures. He tries to not stress the students too much about exams and quizzes. The material that he teaches is quite entertaining; lectures are a little over 25 minutes. Rely on the lectures to pass the quiz. Would definitely take again.
Heavy lectures only available for three days after they're posted, not cool, sometimes can't get to them within three days. They can get long, and not super interesting unless you really like this stuff. SO MUCH READING. The weekly quizzes are mostly lecture material, as well as the midterm.
Mr. Segal obviously loves what he does, and it shows in his lectures. I took his online class last spring and he had beyond the best format out of all my teachers. He makes assignments clear and quizzes easy. I never picked up a single book, but I feel like even without reading I got more out of his class than any of my other ones spring quarter.
Professor Segal was a super fun prof to have! He was very accommodating considering the recent turn of events, but he made lectures fun and was very open to feedback. The course is graded based on quizzes, midterm, and final, but the material is interesting so it makes it easier. Overall I really enjoyed his class and his love of aqueducts :).
AMAZING PROFESSOR!!! He is such a good lecturer & I hope UCSB continues his contract. He made Roman history so interesting and all lectures were entertaining. Weekly quizzes were not bad at all. He was extremely accommodating with regards to the online course in quarantine. I would definitely take a class from him again. HE IS THE BEST!!!!
2 short papers, midterm, and final. Harsh grader on the 2 papers. Don't be surprised if he gives you an F. Midterm and final consist of MC and written portion. Makes test hard enough so those who didn't do the reading will not do well. Test overall is fair. Do the readings, go to lecture bc some test questions come from it. Not an easy A/GE course.
Noah is an excellent teacher, along with person! I got stuck taking Latin this quarter last minute, and he made it worth it. Hes very caring, and wants his students to succeed in his class. Hes very flexible and always available to contact outside of class too. He makes his classes interesting and funny, which helps with difficulty. Overall great
Come in late to section a few times? Be prepared for him to take you outside in the middle of class and embarrass you in front of everyone. Want to miss one section one day? Say goodbye to your grade.
Great TA, made section and the class fun. Very helpful when you need any clarification and goes over everything important during section. Reviewed everything very well for the midterm.
I had Noah as a TA for Greek Myth and the course was actually really easy. Grades fairly. Explains things clearly. Easy to talk to. Definitely recommend taking Greek Myth with Noah as a TA. :D
