Dr. Walker died during the night of Feb. 6, 2009, of a heart attack. He is sorely missed, as a scholar, friend and professor.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ARE AN UG!! I thought it would be fun it wasnt! He doesnt TEACH you anything, expects you to know it all and at lab time the ta and him are nowhere and when you do ask for help your dumb. He only pays attn to his grad students which make up most the class and they teach better! tests are near impossible. just say no!

Professor Walker is a great lecturer. He very funny and very interested in what he teaches. Tests are multiple choice but if you study his lecture and reader you'll do fine. Also his three papers are short and relatively easy if you put some effort into it. I recommend this professor!

He is really boring. Study for tests they are difficult. The material presented by someone else would be more interesting. TA graded papers unfairly.

He is just not a good lecturer. He pauses a lot to figure out what to say next, multiple choice test are hard, uses curves if the class does relatively bad. Papers have usually pretty interesting topics and easy to write [but he does not grade those] and you have to go into office hours a lot before he remembers your name.

Not the most interesting class, but this Professor is really cool, subtly funny and clearly into his subject. Lecture is the same as readings and tests are very thourough.

I have to admit, I did not like him the first class I took with him. He can be unclear and monotonous. But I really enjoyed the second class I took with him because it was more organized and challenging, so I got a lot more out of it. He cares very much about the topics, although it may seem he doesn't show it. He's funny in a subtle way.

Boring. So boring. The subject itself wasn't so bad but his voice, my Lord his voice... just drones on and on and on.... Lecture was somewhat painful. Didn't bother to do the reading, though, and ended up fine, which makes me a happy camper! Still... so boring...

he uses interesting jargon for his class "bug eating techique" you will enjoy. His lecture is everything and the readings are less than 10 percent of anything he will examine you on but he is a fair but hard grader. Never nod off that's for sur

He's awesome, his lectures are interesting and contain many great images, and he's one of the nicest and most approachable professors in the department. I did an honors project with him and he was great to work with.

Walker isn't awful, but he's not the best, either. He assigns a few papers to write, and puts his notes online, but the lectures leave much to be desired. DRY sense of humor, pauses a lot to think of what he'll say next, ala Ben Stein. A lot of material, multiple choice tests are tough, so study.

Really knows his stuff and works hard to help students, very active in his field and brings that to the classroom, highly recommended.

Walker is an awesome professor. Very helpful, and fun to listen to. Faunal Analysis is a tough class, but was the number one reason I came to UCSB, and it was everything that I anticipated.

Faunal analysis. Small classes. It was hard I thought but some found it easy, It is like you can do it or you can't, identify bones of all kinds of animals. Lectures were good, clear. Helpful, very smart, always there for students. Nice!
