I really enjoyed learning from Professor Appel this summer -- he's the kindest, sweetest person ever! He's such a joy and I'm so lucky to have been in his class. While there wasn't the traditional style of teaching and presentation here, I found it highly enjoyable. As an freshman, this class was the absolute best way to be introduced to UCSB! :))

I have no complaints. The required books were very cheap, the lectures had a break, things felt fair, and the creative assignment was cool. It was nice to hear people speak during classes, since a lot of online courses do not have that. There was a scholarship given to FSSP students during this as well; really worth taking. He's a good dude.

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival trip. Eight plays in four days, backstage tours, great discussion in a small group, and interviews with actors/directors. Worth the money for an awesome summer trip. Easily the most fun class available in the whole department!

so easy. just make sure your TA knows you and study an hour or so for the midterm and final and you are golden for an A.

Awesome professor who truly loves what he does. Lectures were enjoyable and the work was not hard. Only bad thing is that the final is graded upon how many different relevant points you make instead of how well you actually answer the question being asked...this is a horrible grading system, but that is the only complaint.

Hes really interesting and the class is easy. just dont blow off the preformances since the final is based on them. the midterm was based mostly on the reading.

Soooo chill.GO TO OFFICE HOURS and kiss his a$$, he will love you! don't read anything, just go to the plays and go to lecture and it's an easy A.No one should have any problem in this class. Plus, he's really passionate about what he teaches and he doesn't make you do any work (some of the other teachers make you write 3 page reviews, he doesn't)

Probably one of the easiest classes I've taken. It's interesting and Irwin gets pretty involved with the readings.

Don't buy the reader, you won't need it. A lot of people in the class are drama kids that Irwin knows; and they can't write for****, so compared to theirs you practically have a gauranteed A on the paper. First midterm=multiple choice=piece of cake. He gave us questions for the final ahead of time!

Pretty easy class. You get quizzed on the reading in section so do it. The miderm wasn't too bad and second half of the class all we read were plays that we saw.

As long as you do all the reading, go to class & performances, & study a little, this class is a cake walk. He tries to make it fun and interesting, and gives extra credit. But, there are WAY TOO MANY required performances to watch. (It's a lot of cash.)

Irwin is fantastic - really gets to know each student individually and cares about us a great deal - a brilliant theater mind - only set-back is sometimes he'll tell you one thing in class and then rip you apart in office hours
