Whittle is a really caring, enthusiastic professor. He obviously cares so much about both his role as an educator and about the work he does as an anthropologist in Mexico. He uses real examples from his fieldwork to explain concepts, which is really cool. Depending on if your TA grades your writing harshly, it's pretty easy to get a good grade.
The best lecturer I've had so far at UCSB. Posts all of his slides on GauchoSpace and all have sufficient amount of info. iClicker questions for attendance. Don't buy the textbook, I never opened mine. He covers all the topics in lecture. Other assigned readings are more important. Great music before class. I miss Whittle's class everyday.
Great, great professor. I was always on the first raw of his lecture. Awesome warm-up music, clear points, interesting topics, and nearly no homework. One long essay needed. Clear review guide before midterms and finals which are not so hard. i-clicker participation needed. One of the best professors in UCSB!
I changed this class to pass/no pass after the midterm and it was the biggest mistake I made this quarter. Whittle is an awesome professor and his final was so easy. It was so refreshing having a professor who's actually passionate about their field of study AND who can convey the concepts of the class in a digestible way. I'd take him again 100%.
Wittle is a great professor, he's really insightful and genuinely cares about the subject in which he teaches. I'd love to take another class with him and if you're taking anthro 2 with him you won't be disappointed.
HANDS DOWN one of the best professors I had this quarter. His midterm was fair and I feel super prepared for the final. You learn so much by just going to lecture and dong the reading. TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM I would highly recommend it!
I took this as a GE and actually learned stuff that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Great class. The professor is super enthusiastic.
Professor Whittle Currently teaches at Cal Poly Pomona and I took him for Ant 104(intro to linguistic anthropology) I don't know if Cal poly has an idiotic curriculum but this was the hardest general ed ive taken. He's a great guy and truly tries but the material is truly excessively difficult. Do no take this class if you're expecting an easy g.e.
Great professor! His class has made me a better person overall. He really wants you to gain knowledge that you can carry with you after school. You do have to read every week but hey its college, he picks interesting material that's relevant to class. Two written exams and a paper. I wish he taught more classes, I would take them all.
Such a sweet professor! Very nice guy that has enthusiastic lectures. I really enjoyed his passion for the topics at hand and the fact that he had first-hand experience with topics made everything seem more realistic. I would take one of his classes again, for sure.
Great Professor. He's really helpful when you go to his office hours. He does talk a lot in his lectures, but he always makes sure you understand the material. He's a wonderful person and really cares about the subject he teaches.
Expects you to read to much. In little time. Super hard study guide. Isn't really clear. His lectures are too long.
FANTASTIC professor, I actually LEARNED things in this class that I'll remember years from now, rather than memorizing a bunch of stuff I don't care about only to forget it the next quarter.
You'll never find a more devoted prof who loves his career more. Whittle is all about student interaction, by i>clicker questions and allowing students to request songs to walk in to lecture and listen to. He also has extra credit opportunities and stresses that his main concern isn't test scores, but your knowledge of the subject. go to office hrs

I love this professor and this class, by far one of the best classes I've taken. His class is so interesting, very enthusiastic, very helpful during office hours. All you need to do is keep up with the reading because he does test you on that, and show up to class because he gives you points based on iclicker questions.
