this class was great. easily my favorite class ive taken so far. the TA was amazing, the lectures were a little boring but all the material is interesting. i recommend heavily.
Anderson is amazing. Lectures are easy to follow and very interesting. Whole course is graded on a midterm, essay, and then a final which optional if you did well on the midterm and had good attendance. Take good notes in lecture because they help for the midterm. Overall, amazing class, wish I could take it again.
Graded only on 1 test and paper. If you did good on midterm and paper, you didn't have to take the final. Honestly, I think you can get away with not doing the readings as long as you go to lecture bc he summarizes it all during class. Attendance is mandatory but it's only worth 1% of your grade. He's a wise guy and has so many stories to tell tho.
I got 100% in this class and it was graded on 1 paper and an essay-style midterm exam (take home w/3 days to complete). The final was optional. The presentations were pretty bad only because he didn't speak loudly enough... otherwise, they were okay. The material is straightforward. His TA graded very easily and was super sweet & approachable.
soc theory with prof anderson was the best -- spices up boring theory with personal stories that relate to the material. was one of my easiest soc classes, paper and midterm was easy & the readings aren't too heavy. didn't have to take the final because i got A+ on both the paper and midterm. highly recommend!!
This class was a favorite for me. I'm so glad I took his class and got to engage with Capital in the way I did (which is super necessary to doing well). My mind was definitely opened and it has led to future intellectual curiosity. This class is amazing and I think Kevin does a great job making Marx understandable and relevant to today.
I've taken him for 3 different courses and have gotten an A in all 3. Lectures are super dry and attendance is mandatory. Just go and do whatever cause it'll help boost your grade. 1 in class midterm, a paper, and final. If you like your grade after the paper and midterm, you don't need to take the final. Trust me, take him! Easy A.
This professor is absolutely terrific. Lectures were boring yes, but the review sessions before the tests/paper were 10/10 helpful and informative. I did really well on the paper and midterm so I didn't have to take the final and finished with an A. Overall, it was a very easy course, I learned a lot about Marx, & I would definitely take him again!
This professor is a caring professor, but lectures are boring. He gets sidetracked with some topics. He does care about his students. There is a midterm, paper, and final exam. If you do well on the midterm then you don't have to take the final exam, but the paper is still left.
He seems like a nice guy, but his lectures can get really dry and boring. Wish he related the material to more current events, because it is hard to see the connection between the history and today. Tests are easy as long as you go over lecture slides and skim the book. Paper is also pretty straightforward assignment.
This was a great class! His lectures aren't the most fun but they are not mandatory. There's only 1 paper and midterm with an optional final. He isn't a tough grader so as long as you did the readings, you'll be fine! Offers the entire class to write them letters of rec :')
Graded on midterm, 5-8 page paper, and optional final. Very straightforward material and content that may boring and difficult, entire course is based on one book so if you read it and understand it you should be fine. You only get one grade percentage added on for attendance if you go a lot so that is a plus since it isn't really mandatory.
He is the most boring professor I have ever had. He is very hard to stay engaged because his lectures are just going off slides. He chooses books that are hard to understand or hard to keep engaged in because they are so boring. There are 2 exams (midterm and final) and 1 paper (5-7 pages). Will NEVER take again and would NEVER recommend to anyone.
Great professor, really puts a new perspective on Marx! Also a very fair class, midterm and paper averaged for a grade with an optional final, and participation/attendance points available for a grade boost!
lectures are dry but very fair class. Tbh you have to really try to fail this class. midterm, paper, and optional final depending on if you like your grade or not. There are pop quizzes and attendance grades but he only counts them if they help your grade, not hurts them. (You have to demonstrate effort though). Great class for getting units.
Class was made of pop quizzes, a 5 page paper, midterm and a final, which is optional based on how well you did on all other work. Pop quizzes are easy if you do the readings. He made the paper easier to do by posting lecture slides online, which basically summarized the books page by page. Fair class but not the best lecturer.
I took this class despite the mixed reviews but regret it so much now. I love sociology but this class stressed me out so much I hated it. I hate the pop quizzes on the reading because the reading is pretty difficult to comprehend. He seems okay as a person but I really wouldn't recommend this class. He is very difficult to approach and relate to.
Very smart and informed. Also super nice if you go talk to him!
I would definitely not recommend this class unless you love Marx because that is basically the subject of the entire class. The material is VERY difficult to understand and ridiculously boring. Quizzes almost every lecture on readings that are difficult to comprehend. Lecture helps with understanding it better. Midterm, paper, and final.
Has great interest in applying theories and texts to our current political and economic system. curious to learn about what his students are interested in and how the material can apply to their life. accessible and willing to embrace tangents.
SOC ME: i expected more from the class. its taught like history not like a soc class. he takes roll everyday and many pop quizzes. you must read and pay attention to do good. i got a D+ the first time and took it again and got a b+. not the best professor I would not recommend him as he is not easy to work with and is very rude. he expects alot.
One of my favorite profs of all time. Sociology of Revolutions turned out to be mostly a 'rethinking Marx' class. I learned that what we read/hear about 'communism' in totalitarian Russia & Maoist China is very different from Marx's humanistic conception of an ideal society. Truly inspiring. Great sense of humor. Wants best for students. Wonderful!
I took this guy for a middle eastern studies class. . . it was a lot of work attendance mandatory because of quizzes on the readings. If you do the readings and can manage to sit through lecture the grading is fairly easy though. Some interesting books also.
