This professor embraces creativity and her teaching/thought processes may be more unconventional. Her main goal is to make her students think. If you are looking to learn more about the technical aspects of music, this class is not for you. She certainly has an open-mind, and you can tell she is deeply passionate.

is more concerned about people being on their laptops than making the class even the slightest bit thought provoking. the first half of every lecture is a repetition of the same things. talks infuriatingly slow about the most nonsensical dumb points. ruined a perfectly good course by not engaging with the topic in any real way. insultingly easy UD

The most boring, pointless class I've ever taken. I don't think she's said a single thing of substance. She has destroyed my perception of music as a field of study as I wonder how low the requirements are to earn a PhD in this field. If you want an easy A, at least find a class that won't make you fall asleep.

Pointless class. Repetitive and not much to learn from. The assignments are a waste of time and you are expected to buy tickets for "concerts" outside of the classroom. Would not recommend this course or professor.

Easy A but extremely annoying professor. Uses the first 10 minutes of every single class to lecture about not being on laptops even though no one is on their laptop. Says a whole lot of nothing throughout the extremely boring lectures. Every lecture is the exact same and she makes no points. It's a waste of time.

It was a seminar environment and an engaging class. Professor Hellier is very kind, passionate, and insightful. There was a Group project every week which could be tough if your group members aren't cooperative. Fair amount of reading and writing but only one assignment every week. Presentation heavy but not bad at all. Would highly recommend!

I don't get how this awesome professor has low reviews! She's sweet and kind and very helpful. I'm taking her Theater 184AA class for Spring 2013 and I'm so far loving it! She's helpful and the workload isn't a ton! It's an interesting course because she makes it fun to learn. A+

The way this prof teaches makes the class seem extremely easy, but she takes it so seriously that it gets annoying. She hates laptops, and rushes through slides. Concerts get annoying, but the class is an easy A because she hates exams.

All you have to do in this class is write an essay and take two tests which you are told what the questions will be. Don't need to read or go to lecture, easy A and not boring.

Boring class. As a music major I had a genuine interest before her class... not any more. Just a bunch of unrelated information being thrown at you in an unorganized manner. Attendance not mandatory, don't buy the text book, save yourself the time and just take another Arts course. Only positive is it's an easy A with little to no work.

Manages to talk about nothing for the beginning three-fourths of class. Then moves on to playing unnecessary irrelevant music while going over the same slides from the previous class. Take if you wish to learn some useless facts about varying specific cultures.

Did not learn anything. Do not need to read textbook. Need to turn in weekly assignment on assigned reading in section, but the T.A. doesn't even check it. Lecture is not mandatory since power points are on gauchospace. Concerts are mandatory and expensive. Best part was getting to play Indonesian instruments.

If you are interested in the content, you will love this professor. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother, as she just wants to ask a bunch of pointless questions. So-so

Very interesting class and fun music concerts. You don't even have to take notes in lecture because they are all on Gaucho space. Tests are very straightforward and easy to ace. Good class to take if you want an easy A.

Go to class. Learn nothing. Write 1 short paper. Get an A. Great class if that's what your looking for.
