lecture heavy, and does not use lecture slides, oral lectures.
Hated the class, super unorganized, would always say presenting your work was voluntary but if you didn't present to the class she would just assume you didn't do the work. Goes on lots of tangents, no clear deadlines or instructions for the assignments she assigns on the spot.
Hated this class so much. So unorganized. You never knew what was due and when it was due. There were big group projects. She was also kinda mean sometimes. Would not recommend at all.
SO DISORGANIZED the class itself isn't terribly difficult but she makes it unbearable at times and so unenjoyable especially when things are online
Professor Herrera Poot is a very kind and vibrant person, but she can be very confusing with the work. My advice is to read what she assigns and pay attention to the title, the author, and what indigenous language was used, for the midterm. Also, do your best work on the map she assigns because she has high expectations.
She seems nice at first, but actions speak louder than words. Read between the lines if you decide to take her class. Read, read, and read.
One of the absolute worst professors I've ever had. She is so unbelievably unorganized and makes it so difficult to understand what's happening in the class. As one of the only non-native Spanish speakers in the class, I felt completely ostracized and left in the dark for the majority of the course.
Extremely knowledgable professor. She definitely knows what she is talking about. I have to admit, her class is disorganized and at the end she goes a little over board with the projects, but she isn't a tough grader. She assings long reading but she goes over them in class. Go to office hours if you are lost, she is extremely helpful!
By far one of the most engaging Spanish Literature professors. She knows what she's teaching, so she might come off wrong, but she just has high expectations for everyone in the class. confused? ASK! she'll literally tell you what she wants/expects from you.
Probably the most confusing and unorganized professor ever! Sara is a wonderful person and willing to help students get the best grade possible, but you never know what is due, when it's due and the assignments never make any sense! She prefers giving creative assignments so that's a plus I guess. But has high expectations of students.
She is a very intelligent woman and she knows her material very well. I did not particularly like how energetic she was but i must admit that she is also a very funny professor. She is also a very helpful professor and is always willing to help.
Sara is caring and a very helpful professor even though the class has no structure if you read all the texts her midterms are easy. If you are interested in colonial literature I highly recommend her she is amazing
I think the only reason why a person would not like this class is because they are not interested in the subject matter. She is passionate about her work and shows that she cares about her students. She doesn't give hard work, she just want's creativity. One midterm, one group project, and a final.
She is very hard to follow, best advice is to participate and/or go to her office hours to get further explanations and clarifications. She is very helpful but harsh at some times, just don't be afraid of some criticism.
always ended class late. It was interesting but she was all over the place. most of the grade was based on a group project. go to her office hrs, this will boost your grade
one of the worst class EVER. she has hundreds of things she wants to do, and that makes her class SO disorganized. She talks one thing and another at the same time so you never know what exactly she is talking about. She always finishes the class late, and she calls on students randomly to speak up. The class isn't clear even for natives.
She is one of the worst teachers I've ever had, she is super unorganized and doesn't assign things clearly. She can be funny but her teaching style makes it hard to learn anything.
She is the best professor I ever had in college. I learned to love learning through her incredible passion and enthusiasm. The is great. Not easy to get a good grade if you are not into the class. You are required to work hard!
Dr. Poot Herrera is an excellent Professor. She takes her job extremely serious and will assist you in any way she can as long as you put forth the effort. She detest lazy people so if you want an easy A don't take her class. If you want to learn and get challanged...she is the right professor for you!
She's never organized and very unclear of what is expected of student in the classroom but laid back and funny and sometimes mean she will pick on you.
She is the best professor in the Spanish Department at UCSB. She has published many books and knows lots about feminist literature.
Best Prof in the Dept. of Spanish
Literally the worst professor I've ever had. Lectures and assignments disorganized and pointless. Often says one thing in office hours and another in class. Belittles students and makes it seem like she's doing you a huge favor by giving you credit for an assignment or reading you actually did. Pretentious but very little literary insight. AVOID.
It's easy to get a good grade in this class, but if you actually care about the subject and want to learn something, avoid this professor like the plague. Also, she is the most disorganized instructor I have ever had to deal with, including those from high school.
