Tough grading, and a ton of homework.

Too much homework, feels like you are in high school. They need to be very clear from the start what kind and form of Spanish are you teaching, Spain, Mexico, or Portugal. It's a mix of all these three which makes no sense. Some have taken Spanish in high school, thus get confused which country or dialect are you speaking. Need more professionalism

She does not follow the syllabus at all. Came up with a surprise final at the end that wasn’t listed under the syllabus. Doesn’t provide feedback on grading. Also graded everything til the very last minute. Would assign homework randomly with one day windows to do them. Unforgiving for make up work. Overall very disorganized and inflexible.

She said I was supposed to use APA citation, even though I had used MLA formatting for everything prior without consequence. After scouring the course site, I did not find any evidence whatsoever that we were supposed to use APA. Please, do not take this professor; you will be humiliated and shocked.

Personally, this course was not difficult for me, but I put 3 because overall it was for others. She is condescending and lacks compassion! She does not provide good enough feedback on homework. She tells you to read again and look at the lectures when you ask her a question, even though she literally asks if we have questions. DO NOT TAKE HER!

Amazing prof. Actually cares about students. You have to participate if you want to pass. Heavy reading and tough grader. If you don't understand something, ask because everyone else is confused. Tough class but she tries her hardest to make it easy. Grade made up from participation, HW, quizzes, midterm and final. YOU HAVE TO READ TO PASS!!!!!

Not my favorite professor because she's condescending and doesn't answer questions in a helpful manner. Her lectures were a lot easier to understand than the readings but her style of teaching makes it hard to learn without feeling like if you do it wrong she will call you out. Heavy on the mini quizzes and homework assignments. Be prepared to read

She a bad bitty!!!! Really tough spanish class-- hardest I have probably taken. She expects a lot out of you, but if you put in the work you can get a good grade. fun class though, community feel bc she put us in a circle <333

She wasn't a bad profesor because she was strict or a stickler. She was a bad profesor because she didn't care about helping the students who were perhaps having more trouble than others. And she showed a mean attitude about questions that she didn't particularly like.

Reading and hw for every class, mandatory participation like all Span classes, 2 very fair exams, and the paper isn't too bad. Laura is overall a good teacher and v knowledgeable, keeps class interesting. Material is interesting if you're Latinx and want to learn history/why we speak Span the way we do. HW can be a bit much but it's good exam prep

Laura is an amazing professor and she definitely has a lot to teach. Some students can see her coming off as condescending, but she is overall a great professor and person. There is a lot of reading for her classes but it goes hand in hand with what she goes over in class. Not an easy A, but if you put in the work you wont think its too hard.

Thick Spain accent, rude to students, shes always mad and confuse. She thinks spanish from Colombia or Cental America sounds uncorrect. AVOID her!!!! She only uses her book and it contains not good quality info

Laura is so smart and I've learned more in her lectures than I ever have in any Spanish class at UCSB. She comes off as strict at first, but she's super funny and makes sure that everything is clear before moving on to the next topic. She's in Spain for the next few years, but take her if you get the chance!

Laura is a tough teacher. I could never tell her anything without her finding a mistake in my grammar but I actually find this quite helpful. I have never learned so much in a class before like I did in hers. She is definitely tough and will sometimes call you out but if you really wanna learn, she is a must!

This class was a little bit of review for me but I enjoyed how she mixed vocab into lectures and used her own stories to relate to the vocab and grammar we were learning. I loved hearing about the ways that Spain differs from America and she was good at answering questions. She's very well put together and is well respected by the students.

Tried to talk to her about my test taking accommodations and when I got there she tried to make an appointment to talk about it again later and she missed that appointment. She also as the supervisor of the early Spanish classes has been unhelpful for my other professors as she often refuses to share information with them for no good reason.

No one in the class likes her, and it's not because of the work she assigns. She is rude to her students, demands respect when she doesn't show any and lacks compassion and understanding for students going through difficult, personal situations. She also says "Uh huh" or "Uh hum" after every sentence.

Very helpful if you put in the work. She won't make it easy for you but will help as much as needed. HOT as well which is always a perk. Very knowledgeable and concise.

She has a thick accent (from spain) and does not take the time to make sure the non native Spanish speakers in her class understand her. She will also assign HW after a midterm w/o telling the class and collect things that are not labeled HW online. Difficult teacher and definitely NOT recommended

Her name is Laura Marqués-Pascual, let's get that straight first. She is probably the most helpful Spanish professor in our dept. She is truly passionate about helping her students learn the language. SHE'S THE BEST!!

First of all, her name is Laura Marquez-Pascual. She is the absolute best Spanish teacher I have had at UCSB. She is from Spain and her Spanish accent is adorable, plus every word is spoken precisely and perfectly, not slowly, but well articulated. Her Spanish is very easy to understand. Bonus is that she is really hot.

She is SO CUTE. Mayb the hottest spanish teacher i've ever met. I felt that she likes guys more than girls. But anyway, her class isnt easy, but she is very fair for those students who do their best.

Head of the Spanish department so she does not take her job lightly. The material can be confusing at times but its relatively okay, its just that she expects full definitions. The course is taught all in Spanish.

You have to do the reading and take notes in lecture, class is taught in spanish. Not impossible to do well, but she's a tough grader
