ESS 130 is easy but you have to go to class because Hamilton takes attendance. The material is obvious so the assignments are busy work. Hamilton isn't the nicest person. I went to class to get the attendance points, but I always worked on other classes and ended up with an A-, 2 points away from an A... Take the class for a GPA boost.
For this specific quarter Hamilton was teaching, she was 7 months pregnant and through the quarter she only got bigger until she went into labor the Monday of dead-week. She has a group research assignment that takes up a lot of time and she made it very unclear what exactly she wanted until the last 2 weeks of class. The material itself is doable.
She is awesome!
She's Awesome Take Her!, now you do have to take notes but you don't need the Textbook, I recommend going to every class as she actually takes attendance. Extra credit! it should be an easy A as long as you go to every class and take notes,Oh VERY IMPORTANT! pick a good team for the Marketing Group Project, thats true for all group Projects though.
I thought this was her first quarter but turns out she's just not a good teacher. She treats students like they are unruly children and always picks on students that aren't paying attention. The exams are fairly easy but beware she piles a large paper/project workload at the end of the quarter. The only reason I went everyday is because it was req.
Interesting class. Lots of extra credit. Pretty decent grader.
This woman is passionate about sports. She does a good job to make sure students understand the material. Midterm was based on lectures. Grading is pretty far so far. I am trying to take her other class in the Fall.
Good so far. Interesting topic. I love classes that SportsCenter is homework!

Cool class. Assignments and tests not bad. Teacher is good.
Have started to take the class and so far so good. She seems to really make an effort to involve the class in discussions and debates. I guess this is her way of making sure we don't get bored from lecture over lecture. I like how she has been using these sport marketing related commercials this week as a way to teach through visuals
I took this class as an elective and actually ending up getting really interested in sport law part of the course. I fell like this class really opened my eyes as to what I want to do for a career. Teacher is pretty cool. She is always encouraging students to stop by her office which not to many UCSB professors always do, the ESS classes rock
Class was pretty interesting. She seems to really know her sports and is really good about meeting with students if they have questions. I like how she is young too - a little bit easier to relate to. Only complaint is she is a Celtics fan, other then that I would say she is pretty fair. I will be taking another class she teaches next quarter.
Don't take this class unless your actually interested in Sport Management or trying to fulfill the minor , she makes you do way to much work and her lectures are extremely annoying, nobody listens to her.
Super easy class. Don't buy the book. Her powerpoints are online memorize those and youre good, attendance is mandatory she lets 2 unexcused slide but after that she starts docking points. She gets really annoyed if you come in even 2 minutes late. If you email her with questions she's really good about responding quickly
Listen to me. HIGH SCHOOL ALL OVER. Dosent dress professional but wants you to when you present in front of class. Rephrases everything you say...very annoying. YOU WANT TO LEAVE BUT KNOW ITS TOO MUCH OF A JOKE SO YOU STAY.. JUST PAINFULL..same with pretty much all UCSB wastes of time.. Oh and SHE IS FROM CANADA AND LIKES THE CELTICS..whats worse??
she thinks she knows how to teach but she sounds like a boring seminar. her test was supposed to be all multiple choice and she asked the stupidest short answer questions. she thinks she knows everything but she doesn't know anything about excercise science so she makes you do research on what she wants which blows.
I took the ESS 160 class, it was interesting. I would reccommend the class. I just graduated or else I would take more of these classes.
I took this course because I had taken another course with this teacher and liked the teaching style.

The current issues class was one of my favorite classes in the sport studies minor. Hamilton made it very interactive. Class assignments are debates and presentations. Workload is average. Your daily homework is watching Sportscenter.
ESS 140 - Interesting class.She knew her information and found ways to make even the dry topics interesting. I am taking her in the Fall, and I would recommend her for those that are considering her classes in the future. I learned alot!
She is my least favorite teacher in all of my 4 years of being at UCSB!! She asks REDUNDANT questions and treats you like you're in high school... AVOID HER IF AT ALL POSSIBLE! I dont know if she honestly didn't think we knew the material or didnt have enough to expand on.. but either way she repeated the book A LOT and VERBATIM! Dont buy the book
SO boring...teaches the class like the students are in middle school...not helpful at all...after the first day of class you will be counting down the days to the end of the quarter...painful
