His class was my favorite this quarter! He is extremely knowledgeable about what he teaches and does not overload us with work! There were two 1-2 page essays that were very easy, and both his exams were very doable. We also had the chance of more than 10% of extra credit!
The course is easy. A lot of people in my class who were originally doing pnp changed their grading into letter grade BECAUSE the GRADING in this class was so great. If you are looking for an easy GE course, do choose this one!
Taken during online Spring 2020, so lectures were pre-recorded, and are super easy to follow. Theres assigned readings, but theyre not necessary, its repetitive of the lectures. Assignments consist of two 1.5-2 pg papers, 2 exams, 2 quizzes, & some forum discussions! Offers 2 extra credit opportunities, together worth a 10% grade bump! Easy GE!
It is not an easy GE. He gives so much reading. The tests expect you to memorize names and dates which as someone who is just taking it to fulfill a GE, it is not worth it. His lectures are recorded and difficult to understand.
Prof. Cabezon is very knowledgeble and I enjoy his lecture very much. 10 extr apoints are super generous for us.
RGST31 OK professor; knows his stuff and was a monk in India which is cool. Not the most captivating lecturer though. Oftentimes brings in guests lecturers who are even less captivating. Above average difficulty for a GE but lots of extra cred and free points from easy assignments. Beware unannounced quizzes in class. No need purchase textbook.
Cabezon was great, super interesting guy who really knows his stuff about Tibetan Buddhism, especially since he used to be a monk! Although this class had a lot of very dense reading, I also think it was one of the most interesting classes I've taken at UCSB
Prof. Cabezon's lectures are very long and there is A LOT of reading. Much more work than I expected. Two short writing assignments due at the beginning of the quarter, opportunities for extra credit are plentiful. Exams are easier than expected, but you should still study. Class is a good mix of lecture and reading, so make sure to keep up.
Professor Cabezon is great. He is very nice, friendly, funny, and approachable. There is definitely a lot of reading be ready. Also, if you want to take an easy GE I would recommend looking someplace else because you have to put in work in this class. It is not too bad, but it was also not fun.
Professor Cabezon is super interesti, he used to be a monk so he has real experience to share in regards to Tibetan Buddhism. This class is ALOT of reading, sometime I couldn't keep up, but its really interestin and not very difficult to read. His lectures parallel the readings so if you read you will understand his lectures better. tests are fair
I <3 Jose.
Really cool prof. Class is really reading-intensive, but due to the confusing nature of the readings, attendance in lecture is pretty necessary. Jose was a Tibetan monk so he really knows about Tibetan Buddhism. Really interesting to talk to, super easy midterm and very little assignments. Overall interesting class, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Prof. Cabezon used to be a monk for 7 years in Tibet, and it shows. He is gentle hearted, awesome to talk to during office hours, and truly wants you to learn and be successful in his class. I am a big fan of Cabezon. Take a class with him if you get the chance
Prof Cabezon is the most laid back Prof you will have. You do have to keep up with the reading a bit, so you have some understanding of the subject for the midterm and final Take his classes if you want to learn about Buddhism from an easygoing Prof.
