Even though he was about 3 mins late to class every time, Chris definitely made up for it in passion and lecture style... He's informal, but clear and good at getting people excited about discussing the material. Take home exams were pretty straight forward. Aristotle was tough, but the pace of the lectures helped. Talking with Chris during office hours was also cool and helpful.
Probably the hottest teacher I've ever had...DAYUM!!But anyway, Aristotle was an extremely interesting class. I've never liked Aristotle because...well, he's a d&^k, but I do have a better appreciation for some of his philosophies, thanks to this class. Text book use was low and tests were just take home essays. Pretty fun stuff! Chris is awesome!
Chris is way mellow but stays on task. Love his style. Can picture him shredding curbs on an old skateboard with rails and huge wheels. Midterm/final were take home essays with way ample time. Go to class and take notes = ace class. To the post above... did you not know that philosophy involves mad reading and writing?
Outstanding professor. Very down-to-earth and knows his stuff. I highly recommend office hours just to talk to him, he's a cool guy.
Chris is an amazing teacher and will make any student love philosophy.
Amazing lectures which start with his "Rock History 101." I mean, how can you hate a professor who starts his lectures with Weezer?! His class is slightly hard, but totally worth it.
Great professor, he definitely knows how to explain all topics of philosophy. Make sure not to get a TA by the name of Jon Plimpton. This TA expects you to write papers the way Plato did or something. His comments on the papers are useless they are pure sarcasm. Worse TA ever!! Chris is a very good professor. Two thumbs up!
Great professor. He plays music videos before each class. He makes you think but makes sure not to put ur ideas down too much. Funnest class this quarter. Keep up with the reading because his lecture clarifies it. 3 essays all quarter, and a couple lil summaries. seriously take it!!!
prof tennberg is really awesome. totally fun class, he plays rock n roll before each class and is a really interesting guy. he plays the devils advocate with all arguments which make you think a lot more. i highly recommend this prof.
Very interesting for a philo class. I was shocked that I actually enjoyed it. The mid-term was take home and he gave a prompt for the final. If you read his power points and understand them you will do great. His lectures were interesting and helpful as well. I never had to do the reading.
Great instructor! Plays music videos before class, AND is in a band which recently had a reunion show. As for the class, he teaches the subject well, and makes sense out of what seem to be confusing arguments by philosophers. Entertaining and well-versed in the subject, allowing for interaction with students during lecture.
he plays music videos before every class. hes pretty young. hes clear but often when you ask a question he says he will get to it later and it doesnt always happen. interesting course.. attending lecture isnt really necessary but certainly helps you grasp the material
cool prof! hes fun and has good taste in music and made everything really interesting which is good because i feel like philosophy with a bad professor has the potential to be INCREDIBLY boring. I LOVED THE CLASS. HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED. =D p.s. his cousin is the lead singer of Pepper. (<--coolness) not too hard either.
My experience in this professor's class was really enjoyable. The material assigned in the reader could be very dense but he did a great job of explaning the arguements in class. In other words, just reading his slides online will most likely not be enough to get the grade you want. Do the 49 question reveiew sheet he provides before the final too
awesome prof. he really makes phil fun & is good at relating philosophical ideas to situations that are easy for students to understand. starts off lecture with music video. take home midterm. easy class, & def recommend for GE. only thing, hes not very good at listening to ppl who present arguments against what he believes.
Amazing class, I would highly recommend it. Professor is really funny and down to earth. Doesn't make you do a lot, and just wants to make philosophy interesting, which he does a great job of. Reading is not necessary at all because he just goes over it in class, so just go to lecture. the discussions you get into are really interesting anyway.
Pretty funny guy although I'm sure some of his humor could get him in trouble with school officials. He made philosophy enjoyable for us student's who weren't trying to get a PhD in it. The class got into some really interesting philosophical topics.
He seems very excited about the topics, and maintains an extremely useful website with assignments and online lecture notes. Class attendance isn't 100% necessary, but of course your grade will be much better if you go, and lecture is interesting to boot. Assignments are very clear, and do-able. I recommend for GE choice.
BEFORE BEGINNING THIS CLASS I WAS VERY ENTHUSIASTIC FOR PHILOSOPHY. AFTER READING THE FIRST READING I WAS TURNED OFF. DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE LITTLE READER, THE WORDS ARE SMALL AND THE CONCEPTS ARE COMPLEX. THE TA'S SEEM TO KNOW MORE THAN THE PROFESSOR, THE PROFESSOR MAKES AND EFFORT TO MAKE THE TOPICS UNDERSTANDABLE, BUT DID NOT ENJOY THE CLASS.
