Bad professor. cannot hear him in the lecture because he is too old to speak. Many mistake in lecture slides and he will not explain the problems and answers he get in the hard example. Very difficult exam and homework. Do not take his course !
i don't think the lectures really help in the exam he gave
DONT TAKE HIS CLASS
I've never had a class where the entire chapter homework is graded on correctness prior to the professor lecturing on it. The role of a professor is to teach the material not have you teach. Yes the student should come prepared to class having read the chapter but should not be responsible for knowing it at test level prior to class. Ridiculous.
Terrible teacher, plain and simple. Doesn't seem to care at all if students are confused, consistently does examples wrong in lecture, and grades the weekly homework on correctness when it's exclusively on material he hasn't taught yet. You will actually have to teach yourself this class.
Honestly incredible this guy is still teaching. The structure of the class makes no sense and neither does Ted. He manages to trip over his words and confuse himself to the point where its impossible to follow. Grading is tough on hw for material we haven't even covered yet.
Ted was useless honestly. You have to read a full chapter and teach yourself all the material and then after the homework is due he kind of goes over it in lecture. So basically you teach yourself the class, and then he reviews what you had to teach yourself. Homework graded harshly.
econ 171 was terrible in an online environment, the professor doesn't communicate with students.... The econ dept needs to get rid of this dude.
Professor Bergstrom wins the title of worst Econ instructor at UCSB by a landslide. In an online environment, little to no accommodations were made and response time via email would take up to a week. The material is not too complicated but get ready to read textbook extensively to understand it since his explanation would send you in circles.
Professor Bergstrom seems like a professor that cares less about his students and more about his research. If you are someone who needs support with difficult material, don't expect support from TA or teacher. Forum discussions are created for students to talk through issues togethor, but teacher doesn't chime in when everyone is stuck.
Honestly, the worst professor I have had in my academic career. So much so, that i felt I needed to write a review for the first time. Ignores students emails, grades harshly, and dismisses students rudely. The very LAST person you want to be teaching a class about Game Theory
Bergstrom was awesome! His game theory class was definitely a lot of work. Homework due every lecture and graded on correctness was a lot but also motivated me to be up to date with the class material. Bergstrom's lectures can be riddled with mistakes in the powerpoint but the material itself is definitely interesting.
Great professor, great class. You need to be able to think very logically to succeed here. The professor himself is a very nice and smart guy, researching areas related to biology using game theoretic models.
Dr. Bergstrom is simply staggering. This is not amateur hour. He is the real deal. His expertise in economics is almost overwhelming, as if it is too much expertise for the younger student to handle receiving all at once. At times he seemed frustrated that the students are so very much less smart than him, but he kept his composure and delivered.
He is old enough that some colleges would not allow him to teach anymore, and yet he can think in circles around a whipper snapper such as me. He is at the golden age where accumulated knowledge and experience are high, and yet senility has not yet taken over. Test questions and readings aren't the easiest, but teaching quality is high.
this guy loves that clicker stuff. mediocre at professing.
I don't know why a lot of people don't like him. He's a great guy and he's lectures are interesting. Pretty easy class, although I didn't get an A because I didn't work very hard. He's exams are straight forward.
lecture is boring, but you have to go because of the clicker. section is mandatory but if you go in knowing what the experiment is going to be its really not that hard. i got an A in the class and had no previous econ background.
Bergstrom really managed to make a subject that I really enjoy seem boring. This is a terrible introduction to the UCSB Economics program. I wouldn't recomend taking his class unless it's a requirement for your major. Be aware that unless you have a basic grasp of economics going into the course, you'll probably end up with 'C' in the class.
This professor was difficult. I learned nothing from lecture. He basically just reads off the lecture slides. He was so boring that he put me to sleep.
Don't complain, Crouch is the alternative. This class wasn't an easy A but then again Econ is not Comm. GO TO LECTURE, you get extra credit if you do well on the clicker. Some of his lectures are kind of unclear but take some time to look over the slides, do the problems he posts (they are just like his tests), do the hw, and you'll do well.
Hes such a horrible teacher! Instead of defining the concepts and then giving examples, he just gives examples and u have no clue what he is talking about! honestly its not that hard of a class if u do all the reading and really study for the tests but dont depends on him for help, basically just teach it all to urself and ull do fine
Hes a goofy prof.Class wasn't too bad. Tests are tricky.Be careful with the wording.Discussions are mini experiements so if you're looking to get help from the T.A.go to office hours. There is HW due every week &clicker questions (xtra credit if u do well) every lecture.Pay attention inlecture, read book, do practice problems he posts & u can pass
really bad teacher. easy class though, woulda been easier if he knew how to teach. makes everyting confusing as hell. take it with crouch instead.
