Extremely demanding professor, but the class is accessible. Probably the first math course you take that requires extensive self-studying.
she teaches poorly, but everything is on the book. however, the book is retarded for ch5. this is the tricky part, u need to learn ch5 on ur own. the book and the teacher are useless, go to mathlab or something. but her tests are not very hard if u do almost every single problem from the book like i did.
not hard at all. just need to pay attention in lecture because she's got a thick accent. homework based off examples gone over in class. exams are just like her practice exams. if you know how to do those, you will be fine.
Horrible teacher, I had to teach everything to myself, HUGE language barrier, TAs are just as useless. WORST MATH TEACHER, AVOID HER
Rewrites book examples on board for lectures and gives ridiculous test questions that she never goes over and barely has any curve. Hard to understand and when asked to do problems she does them slowly and makes mistakes every time and explains them very poorly. Really an awful teacher, avoid at all costs
Horrible teacher. she can't teach, and the TAs are not that much better either. We have ridiculously hard tests while the hw, most of the time, is pretty easy. I came into this class loving math, and now i hate it. AVOID THIS TEACHER IF YOU CAN.
quizzes are pointless and tests are graded really hard.. you get marked down on problems for practically no reason..she basically tries really hard to make you get the least amount of points possible..do not take her if you can help it..and obviously i have not learned much from the lectures
She is honestly one of the worst teachers i've ever had. Her lectures are so teoretically that the homework is impossible to do. The TAs are useless. Her midterms are way harder than the hw and she wont let you use a note card...dont get into her class if you can avoid it...i read these after i signed up for her and it was too late to switch
Very hard to understand. she only taught the basic concepts and expects you to figure out the much more complicated problems on the homework and tests. On top of all that she doesnt allow a notecard or calculator on any of the tests while other 3b professors do. avoid her if you can
She wasn't a great teacher-and once I found out that she basically lectured out of the book, I started just reading the text and doing some sample problems from the end of chapters. Thinking about it now, I should have just stopped going to class and used that time towards reading the book. She knows the material, but is not great at teaching.
Going to lecture actually confused me. Reading the book (very concise, actually) and doing practice problems helped best. Her accent is not understandable; her teaching method is incomprehensible. TA was the real teacher here. He graded fairly; she babbled on tests and worded questions badly. Takes points off for little things. Just read the book.
Lectures were completely useless. Hard to understand. Quizzes in discussion were really difficult. Only think keeping students from failing were practice midterm/final. Would not recommend this professor at all.
Horrible professor. Stopped attending after second day of lecture because her lectures were nearly-incomprehensible babbling. Decided to not curve the class at the last second, and if the SUNY professor is the same, she has had a failure rate of over 50% for some of her other classes. Doesn't seem to care too much for her students overall.
Her lectures are not helpful at all. Attendance dropped after the midterm (I kept going, but attendance dropped from 150ish to about 30 by the end of the quarter). If you have to take the class, be sure to sign up for CLAS. Awful quizzes are given in section, in order to keep you from learning
Bad. Just bad. Made me buy a book that had nothing to do w/ the class and just babbled all lecture proving stuff. I stopped going because the combination of people around me sleeping, semi-useless lecture, and accent. TA decided to be a jerk and give near impossible quizzes that had little in common w/ the current course material. DO HER PRACTIC
Shu was a good teacher. At first, she was a bit difficult to understand because she has a thick accent, but after time it becomes more clear what she's saying. Understand how to do all the problems on the practice tests - they're almost identical to the tests. Overall, I thought it was a good course and definitely not very difficult.
good teacher but hard to understand at times, english not too good. good way of explaining concepts though. midterms and final are easy, exactly like the practice tests. you can tell she is a really smart person.
Couldn't understand what she was saying, lectures are straight from the book. Stopped going after the 2'nd week of lectures. Relatively easy midterms/final. But yeah, she confused the heck out of me, I taught myself all the material(mostly review from highschool.)
Calculus for Social Science Majors; begins with a LOT of Algebra, so it is a pretty easy course. If you pay attention, she is a thorough teacher who presents the material in a way which is easy to understand. The homework is harder than the tests and assigned weekly.
Some thought she was hard to understand, but if you're really there to pay attention and not talk to the people aroudn you, she's really thurough.
Taken her twice. Huge curve the first time I took her, getting an A without getting an A on anything but quizzes and HW. This time, I expect no different.

has quite an accent. is a bit hard to understand. lectures straight from the book. when someone asks a question in lecture, she doesn't understand what they mean, so she repeats what she just lectured. TAs not helpful. on the other hand, tests are easy-ish
