All of a sudden just like that? Rest in peace Professor Cast. The fact she gave so much enthusiasm and help in every lecture makes it harder to accept she is gone. Very nice lady, always wanted to know her students input, gave us all the support we needed, and most importantly an amazing and kind hearted human.
Professor Cast was one of the most genuine professors I have had here at ucsb. She was caring, calm, and supportive. I am so appreciative to have been taught by her. May she rest in peace.
Professor Cast was one of my favorite professor at UCSB. She was a very sweet, caring, and understanding professor who was always willing to help and listen to her students' words. I really enjoyed the way she lectured that I could being so engaged in all the classes I had with her. Rest in peace, Professor Cast.
lovely class
Rip Ms. Cast you were an amazing professor
Rest in peace, Dr. Cast.
I loved Prof Cast! I was having a really tough time personally and she was super understanding. She is very caring and is there for her students. The course does require you to read a lot and attending lecture is mandatory especially for quizzes. Reflections every week, quizzes every 2 weeks, and she gives extra credit opportunities. TAKE HER!!
a really great ans clear professor . YOu have as short quiz every other week and reflection writings about 1 page each week.(DUE SATURDAY NIGHTS) . NO FINAL OR PAPER
Prof. Cast is kind and engaging with interesting lectures. She offered many extra credit opportunities to improve our grade. My only gripe with the course was the TA, Emily Fox. She graded all the reflection papers and did so harsher than Prof. Cast. She openly admits that we'll almost never receive full points because we aren't "perfect" writers.
Prof Cast is my favorite professor I've had in my 4 years at UCSB. She really cares about her students. She's very approachable. Her lectures are very organized and I just love & appreciate what she always had to add. She's also silly and always made us laugh. There's no final so that's also a plus
Honestly, loved everything about Professor Cast. Class is made up of weekly reflections and short quizzes. She is so kind, and really fosters student engagement and conversation. Thought provoking class if you try to participate. 10/10 recommend.
Overall, the professor is very engaging in lecture and makes the topic interesting to learn. HOWEVER, the TA grades so unreasonably hard and makes it nearly impossible to achieve a good grade in this class. I have followed all instructions on the discussion posts and my friends and I have never gotten full credit on any assignment. :(
I absolutely loved this class and Professor Cast. She is extremely accommodating to and always wants us to give her feedback through our mid quarter assessments. The classes are very chill the lecture slides are usually 12 to 15 slides max, very easy to follow. The exams are majority made up of info from lecture so don't skip class. Easy A.
Professor Cast is awesome, I have taken two of her classes and she is super nice and very responsive over email. I do think he grading is a bit harsh, but as long as you take the notes and then refer to the text for a more in-depth explanation you'll be fine.
Cast is one of my favorite professors! Even though this is a research class and a lot of ppl dread taking it, she made it so enjoyable. The TAs were also great. The whole class really focuses on making sure everyone understands the material and does well on assignments. Weekly quizzes and 6 assignments, no midterm or final! I highly recommend!!
Professor Cast has been by far one of the best professors I have had in my 4 years at UCSB. You can just tell she genuinely cares for her students and does not hesitate to make accommodations when students are in need. She is super approachable and easy to talk to. This class is interesting, well organized, and manageable work load! Take her class!
LOVE her. she cares about her students. Make sure to attend all lectures (or watch recorded lectures) and take thorough notes! Also, on short answer quiz questions, make sure to write every piece of info on the topic, or you will get some points off. No tests (only self evaluations), and weekly reflections. Overall great prof
Professor Cast is one of the best sociology professors at UCSB. 3 exams and 3 papers and its all based on everything she teaches. There will never be a question that she did not go over in class She is super sweet and opens up more office hours when its almost time for a test. You will read a lot but topics are interesting, great class overall
Dr. Cast is truly the sweetest lady ever. She tries her best to make a seemingly boring class (survey methods) bearable and somewhat interesting. The lectures were well-organized, she gives extra credit as much as possible, and tests were very easy. You can tell she wants everyone to succeed. Super friendly and accessible.
Professor Cast really cares about her students and tries hard to help make the material understandable. This class is on survey methods, which can have some unfamiliar topics and math. The class requires a lot of involvement with written assignment and 3 exams, but the class is graded fairly and TA's/Prof are very accommodating. Highly recommend!
Prof Cast is one of the best professors at UCSB. I dreaded taking a methods course but it was actually very tolerable and interesting. Theres 3 exams (she gives study guides) and 6 assignments. Attendance isnt mandatory but youll be missing a lot of crucial info for the exams if you dont go. 108 w/ Cast will be your best choice! NO PRESENTATION
3 exams, 8 assignments. Print out powerpoint before class to take notes & studying that is enough for the exams. Assignments are pretty straight forward. She gives random, easy extra credit opportunities. Very organized.
Dr. Cast is awesome. She's weird & funny, and super approachable. I had been putting off the methods course until my last quarter & I'm SO glad I took her. Tests and HW are fair. I hate public speaking, & this is the ONLY methods class where you won't have to do any presentations/group projects. SOC108 can be kinda dry, but she makes it tolerable!
Absolute must to take a class with her. She is so intelligent and kind, and a super understanding professor. If you go to class there is no reason you shouldn't get an A
