My favorite professor at Ucsb, Professor Patterson genuinely cares about her students and doesn't assign overwhelming amounts of work. As long as you stay on top of your assignments you are guaranteed a C in the class. Getting an A or a B requires a little more work, but is manageable. Feedback is given on all major assignments before submission.

This class is a drag and a half for an online class and for a supposed lower division class, it is so much busywork that gets redundant really quick. If you can, take an upper division writing class that is more specific for your major.

KP is a great chill person! She is a great grader and she will always give you some very good advices on your work. All time best writing professor!

Very sweet and easygoing professor, which can be dangerous. Take advantage of her kindness in a beneficial way rather than a malicious one. She spends a lot of class going off on random tangents. Overall, very caring and helpful. There are a lot of assignments but they are all fairly simple and easy to get a good grade on.

Take this class if you want tons of pointless busy work. The teacher is kind and caring, but unfortunately lectures are extremely boring and pointless. She does seem to be accessible and not an extremely tough grader... it is mostly an "easy" class (other than all the busy work), you will just feel bored and babied the entire time.

I love writing, but did not like this class. The lectures are mandatory but extremely boring and unhelpful. The teacher drones on for the entire time about repetitive and pointless materials. Tons of busy work for homework. She has even had us use crayons in class before... don't take this class if you want to actually learn and be challenged.

One of the best professors at UCSB. I am usually not one to like writing, but she is very clear in what she wants and you will learn to love the drafting process. She gives great feedback and is very understanding of students. Work hard and stay on top of things and pay attention to the rubrics and you will do well. Go to office hours for help.

One of the best teachers I've had. Flexible, actually cares about students, doable workload. Others say busy work, but it's constructive (UPPER DIV!!) Everything specifically geared towards developing the paper. Allows for IMPROVEMENT on all submitted work! Some required office hours. Constructive feedback and worth it.

I took Writing 109SS, because I thought it would help me with my upcoming anthropology research project. Honestly, this class is FULL of unhelpful busy work, and I never got critiqued on MY actual writing. All she does is talk about her kids, and waste tons of class time with unnecessary instructions prior to projects. I loathed going to this class

Patterson is such a great teacher! She really breaks down the writing process and does a lot of work that helps you work on your research paper! All the extra work keeps you working/thinking about the research paper. But she also is very personal, very flexible, and understanding. She does her best to help when you approach...! Even work make up!

109HU. Amazing. I see a lot of complaints about busy work, but other than the research paper, the assignments were quick and easy. It's no more writing than what you can expect for an UPPER DIV. WRITING CLASS. Super understanding/flexible on deadlines. There's mandatory office hours, but that's only because she wants to know/help her students out.

way too much work... the project in other class are group project. in this class, she expected you to finish all the research paper by yourselves. From the beginning to the end, and she will keep ask you to revise everything. if you are a busy person, this probably not a good class to take.

I went into this class expecting it to suck but it actually turned out to be pretty good. Yes it was a lot of work and it wasnt easy, but Patterson makes the class as interesting as possible and the many due dates make the overall assignment manageable. It's not a joke class, it's hard work, but if you have to take 109ss, take it with patterson

The online hybrid class was pretty convenient but it was pretty difficult to get feedback quickly from assignment. Pretty confusing when the assignments were due and also how to actually do the assignments. However, she is very nice but is very unclear about a lot of things especially in the online class

Very friendly professor. Tries to get to know her students. Always open to suggestions. Very helpful during office hours when you really do not know what to write. Grades fairly. Very clear on what she expects from assignments, but still allows for creativity.
