You can tell Professor Dutsch loves what she's teaching. Her lectures were always intriguing & she responded to emails QUICKLY. There were weekly discussions & quizzes both pretty easy. For the final, you could either write a creative essay (your choosing) or propose your own question and use readings from the class to support it. 10/10 recommend
She's absolutely lovely. Quizzes are as easy as she can make them--she wants you to pass. She's very energetic and brings zazz to topics that could otherwise be very dry. If you don't know something when she calls on you, she'll help you out a LOT rather than make you feel embarrassed. I'll miss her class!
I took her joint seminar about Latin America with Professor Lupi and found it interesting! Professor Dutch is passionate about her subjects and fills her lectures with interesting anecdotes about historical figures, myths, and stories that brought Ancient Rome to life.
Prof. Dutsch was enjoyable, but I do not recommend this class as a GE unless you have a background in ancient history or greek myth. She teaches towards the classics majors and it's hard to stay focused during lectures. You have freedom on the papers but the final exam required memorization of lots of readings, authors and dates. No thanks.
She was a pretty good teacher but the class was SO hard IMO. I wanted to like latin but it was taught SO fast and was 2 years in 10 weeks. 2-3 quizzes a week but she was a nice grader. Midterm not too bad but the final was hard.
She is an interesting lecturer. She gets very much into the subject, which makes it enjoyable. However, if you can't understand accents you may have a problem. I didn't but other people said they did. THIS IS A WRITING CLASS, but I think the grading is reasonable. The grading on tests I just don't understand at all...
Her lectures are very boring and monotone, not very interesting if you weren't previously interested in the topic. There are weekly quizzes, all multiple choice on the readings. If you do take this class, I recommend taking it pass/fail unless you want to do a ton of excessive readings on plays
She is extremely fun and into the subject. As long as you put in the effort she asks of you, you will absolutely do well. Excellent teacher, really made learning Latin enjoyable.
This teacher is very enthusiastic about her subject. She makes sure her students do very well in the class and offers a lot of extra credit and easy points on tests. Weekly quizzes are very easy. Take-home midterm. Very fair.
Awesome. Super interesting, super funny and very good at creating interest in the subject. Definitely take a class with her if possible. So inspiring. Makes you want to learn everything about the subject matter. So helpful and friendly.
She is an amazing professor! She loves to help students and really wants her students to do well. Her class is easy to get through if you put in a descent amount of work. The subject matter makes the class difficult, not the professor.
Truly one of the most passionate and helpful professors I have studied under. Professor Dutsch aims to make class material as accessible to students as possible without diminishing the integrity of the subject.
The class is great if you are interested in the subject. She is lively and entertaining. The tests are tough, but fair.
This lady can't teach. GOSH her accent makes it so difficult to understand her. And i agree - she's overly cocky about latin and wants to shove it in your face every morning. she would even make a 'latin'os" cereal and destroy cheerios for it.
Very smart, and probably speaks about a dozen languages too, which I like.
Well, here's hoping you don't listen to the guy who thinks that taking Latin at all is dumb. This woman is a GREAT professor--she's passionate about her subject, cares about her students and will reschedule her life or stand on her head to make them do well, and loves input, questions, and being corrected--if only all profs were so unpretentious!
Dutsch is one of the best profs I've had here. She has a passion for Latin and she really cares that we understand it. Plus she's hilarious in her foreignness (accent is NOT too bad). There's a LOT of quizzes but they help you stay on top of the material. Definitely a recommended professor!!!
GROSS, who labeled her as hot? I didn't understand a single word that came out of her mouth (one of my colleagues who is also intelligent agreed). Her thick, heavy, dense accent makes it so difficult to understand her. She lacks detail when teaching, and expects you to know things beforehand. She thinks she's the Queen of Scotts.
Tough but fun. As long as you are ready to work hard, take her class.
Dutsch is different than most profs, really...ummm funny...and weird. Test are fair, and she reads latin all dramatically. Homework is a b*tch, there's no getting out of it. She's always running late...but she knows her sh*t..
