Chris really cares about his students. He encourages in class participation and classes go by quick when your talking a-lot. Really interesting and useful material that's very applicable to life. Brings candy to class everyday. Just a great dude
Absolute best guy ever.
Now that you have come to our excellent school, please take this excellent professor's class as a reward for yourself!
Chris is a great professor if you are looking at Writing courses! His assignments were really helpful for us to understand genre and the essence of writing. His grading is labor base, so as long as you do the work, he will give you the points.
Loved coming to every class as we worked through writing in a sense of getting those topics clear as opposed to grammatical stuff really. Labor based grading which made for an easy A. Tried my best with everything I wrote and tried improving from my feedback. Tons of peer review. Also had to make a presentation and lead a discussion.
It IS a writing class, so there is a ton of writing involved. Had to write in discussion boards every week & had 3? papers which he helped us break it up into smaller chunks. Was in his ACE class, but his feedback was great! It was more about topic flow instead of grammatical stuff :). Labor based grading which was refreshing. Love him!
Chris is the nicest guy ever. One of the coolest professors I have had at UCSB. Cannot recommend him enough.
Love Chris!! So passionate and really great assignments. Would 100% take another class with him, one of the best professors at UCSB
Still an incredible professor since the last person who said it. Change your plans to take a course with this man. A very kind educator who will likely be very well equipped to support you whatever your circumstances are. I'm serious, add the class now, they fill up quick. Be ready to do much of your most important work during class!!
I loved Chris, super nice guy, made sure to get to know you. Freedom of topic choice for final project. Classes were kind of long, but he made them fun. Interesting course topic, conspiracy theory and urban legend hasn't been something I've studied so much before. Brought donuts last day of class. 10/10 take for a GE
He is one of the most patient professor I've ever met in UCSB. I was in the first place in the waitlist but due to technical issues I couldn't enroll in it. He helped me and emailed me to get enrolled step by step. The course is also useful and teaches us how to write formal academic research paper. Take his class!
Labor base grading contract is the BEST. Get what you work for didnt worry about my grade the whole quarter. As long as you do the work youll get an easy A and improve your writing skills!
Take this professor. He is the most genuine, caring and compassionate professor I have ever had. He cares deeply about your well-being and is an amazing teacher who is passionate about his classes. His WRIT105CW taught me so much and had a huge impact on me. Definitely one of my favorite classes at UCSB. Thank you Chris for an amazing quarter!
I love you Chris
His class is honestly such a joy to take. He really cares about his students and makes you feel very welcome in the classroom. I would recommend taking a class with him if you can! There is no textbook, but there is an online reader. The in class discussions are centered around the articles you read so I would suggest being prepared!
Love Chris. He has created a really interesting class with the way he does 105R. He really cares about his students, and provides a lot of room for creativity and developing your own writing style. Honestly, take any class you can with Chris as a teacher.
Easy-going in class & on assignments. Left good feedback on most assignments before turning them in & graded fairly easily. Allows extra credit by leaving your phone w/ him. I dread writing but he incorporated different types of writing assignments, like a podcast, so it was actually enjoyable w/ interesting topics. Barely cracked open the text.
I took ACE Writing 2 with him, and I loved this class so much. He was easy to work with and not intimidating at all. I recommend taking the ACE course if you can. He let us choose our own topics for the papers, and I learned so much about not only writing, but also about myself.
Professor Dean is an AMAZING teacher. He is always available to meet outside of class and truly cares about his students and their work. There were 3 projects but all were manageable. I truly miss this class.
Prof. Dean is one of my absolute favorites. His writing class on rhetoric was fun while still maintaining a good academic atmosphere. He gives you all the freedom to write about what you are interested in; if you don't enjoy the class it is your fault for choosing boring things to write about.
Great professor! His jokes are corny, but definitely gets a chuckle out. He loves his job and wants to make writing enjoyable for those who don't like to write. He brings candy to class occasionally.
took his Writ109ED class and it was great! need a reader. he makes the 1.5 hr class feel like a 20min class. lots of small group discussions on reading(counts as participation,so good for those who are shy & dont want to talk in front of class) very nice and super helpful! take his class!
Simply the best class and professor I've had so far at UCSB. The class isn't hard, and Chris doesn't grade too toughly, but he actually made me WANT to succeed and give it my best. Chris is the dude.
Professor dean was by far more than organized, prepared, and helpful in his role as an instructor for writing 2. Flexibility, creativeness, and his ability to engage the class is crucial to this course; he does all that and more. This class felt more of a potential work environment rather than a classroom environment.
