A great professor for first year students. Class consisted of weekly knowledge checks which were a piece of cake. She also gave out pretty handy study guides: we had a mid-term and a final at the end of the semester. Be sure to READ the attached readings, on top of the lecture.
Wonderful personality, but not very entertaining. Not boring, but each class tends to be somber. 302 and 361 were both solid choices with her, but personally I enjoyed 302 much more and so did the rest of the class. You will write papers, take weekly quizzes that are fairly easy, but the readings are very lengthy. About 30 pages on average.
Her lectures are kinda hard to get through because the class felt so long, but she tries her best to keep everyone engaged. The material isnt that bad, and she included screenings to watch as well. Quizzes, midterm and final exam, two writing assignments-- standard and easy structure to follow.
Prof. Thompson is okay. Her lectures aren't really entertaining. Some of the material is confusing. Weekly readings are pretty lengthy. We got to watch episodes/clips from The Sopranos, I Love Lucy, Modern Family, etc. so that's a plus. Weekly quizzes based off the reading, but pretty easy. Midterm, final, 2 writing assignments (not complicated).
Heather's class was a real joy to be a part of. Her knowledge is vast and she is one of the best Critical Studies professor I've taken. Weekly readings can get lengthy, but she made it bearable with great lectures. Very transparent with students on grades, and a very positive presence.
Heather was one of my favorite professors this semester. Her lectures were very much aboout open discussion and debate, which I very much enjoyed. She has a very strong and clear understanding of the topics and was a huge help in breaking down complex ideas. Her personality is very welcoming and friendly. One of the best Critical Studies professors
Always nice to take Thomspon's class, she's a chill prof. Gives weekly reading quizzes (goes over them), 2 short essays and a midterm and final that are both multiple choice + written. Gives review sheets for both tests. She has clear grading criteria, however if you do your work you should get a good grade.
This is my second class with her. She's nice, has a great sense of humor, & has clear lecturing material. She gives a study guide that is basically the test & her papers for the semester are actually interesting. Long reading assignments with scheduled quizzes, but not difficult quizzes. Would definitely recommend to anyone who loves old TV shows.
She's incredibly nice and has a sense of humor. Lectures are easy to follow & she posts all her lectures online. No textbook needed; she posts all readings online. She reviews for her tests (Just midterm & final), clearly defines what she wants for papers (3 total), & explains projects well. Excellent class & would take again! I highly recommend it
6 online responses + 3 quizzes + 1 book review + 1 cumulative final. Lectures are based off power points that she posts online. She does take attendance. No textbook, but long PDF articles. Sometimes challenging, but not too hard. Overall, an interesting class about TV's early history taught by a nice and helpful professor.
She lectures off power points and shows video. She will break down and ask for participation, although it isn't for a grade. Listen to her lectures and review your notes! Really easy class. I recommend it! You have 3 journals based off a TV show of your choice. She also gives reading quizzes every week. So just make sure to read for every week.
We watched chick flicks and listened to interesting lectures, very reader-based. She asks specific questions on weekly quizzes. The final and midterm and bluebook and HARD but I loved the class.
i had her for australia/new zealand, they make the worst movies ever. she was smart i guess, but everyone bombed her quizes. i really wish i hadnt taken the class.
Very unclear in what she wants, boring lecturer -- not terribly hard on grading, but desperately hard to sit through in class
summer class: fun, and interesting. quizzes were easy, i read less than half of the reader and got a B+. if you showed up, you didn't need to read. i'm not even a film major and i did well. recommend to all.
