He is happy you go to his office hour but I do not he can teach the text clearly although the book is written by him. Sometimes his logic is misunderstanding.

Since he wrote the book, it was obvious that he knew the material really well. The approach he takes really eases you into the material that is so different from past math courses I've taken. Section is twice a week, which REALLY helps. Homework is manageable and tests are fair. If you take Math 8, take it with him!

gerstein was a pretty good prof. he explained a lot in class and gave pretty decent lectures. tests were challenging, but fair, and there was a good curve. not too much hw- its helpful to do it anyway.

Took him for a class intended to prepare math majors for UD classes. He expects a lot, and the class itself is difficult but having section 2 times/week and attending office hours is helpful. He is difficult at times to follow but not terrible. From reading other reviews, my feeling is that he teaches more advanced material better.

He cannot teach. His lectures make no sense. Go to CLAS instead of lecture and the tests will be pretty easy.

loved him!! he's really funny, and a little random but that makes lecture easy to sit through. the material is not that bad once you get the hang of it.

Great teacher. The course was very coherent (he wrote the book, all homework was from the book, ect) and tests reflected course material very well. Some students find the course hard, I donno, I didn't.

Super hard class if you arent a super math whiz because the professor is very unclear and the tests are ridiculously hard and complicated and nothing like lecture or the homework

Gerstein is a fine teacher. He will test if you understand the material, not if you can do all the basic stuff. If you take his class be sure you understand everything that's going on and it's pretty easy to get an A.

This professor is very good. I don't know about the previous comments, but if you take him for upper division, he is clear, helpful, and his tests are on material that you have seen before if you go to lecture and keep up on the homework. Very fair with grading as well.

i would rather stick a burning branding iron down my esophogus than sit through one more of his god aweful lectures. Avoid at all costs...even if it means the branding treatment!

Not as bad as everyone says. Class is hard, not impossible. Lectures are a little difficult to understand, but he assigns reading ahead of time so you can prepare. Do the homework, use CLAS, you'll be fine. Only problem: he asks for explanations on tests.

He's witty in a nerdy way (which was amusing to me), but he lectures like he's talking to himself, and his tests are unusually hard since he tries to test many ideas in each question. He knows what he's doing, but he doesn't know how to teach.

This guy really sucks. His class was ridiculously hard, and he makes big jumps in lectures that he assumes his students understand.

If you actually pay full attention to his lectures and stay on track with hw. this class will not be bad at all. I got an A+ in this class by attending every lecuture and paying attention. o ya and he speaks english which is a rare plus in the math dep.

Worst math professor ever. Lectures are a waste of time as he makes very stupid analogies with each concept. Tests are almost impossible as they are based on the theoretical aspect of the concepts and not the actual problems. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS IF POSS

Horrible!! The absolute worst, his tests are way too theoretical and complicated. Do not throw your grade in the trash by enrolling in his class

This guy is a smart teacher but cant explain anything, and really, his tests are very difficult and his grading is unfair and wack.......I would not recommend taking any courses with this professor!!!!!

Teacher sucks at teaching. He has problems worked out in his notes and gets lost when copying them down on the board. The class is a waste of time. Your better off reading the material on your own than being in his class.

He sucks, He talks as if he was in his own world and doesn't make any sense.

Just don't even bother.

too confusing...tries to help, but confuses you more. his curves are all right, but his tests are WAY too hard.
