difficult teaching style he asks difficult questions and won't continue lecturing until they are answered. he was late to class almost every day. there were only a few assignments and there were multiple instances of confusion about due dates including the final paper. never posted any grades throughout the quarter and never handed back final exams
Doesn't stick to syllabus, consistently late to class, passive-aggressive to students asking questions, often smirks and ridicules students who answer a question incorrectly in lecture, does not continue with the lecture until his questions are answered by students, will not have completed grading any course material after week 6 until finals week.
Professor Clark routinely shows up late to lectures, is extremely passive aggressive when answering questions, and his tests require memorization of specific values & complex graphs. He does not follow his syllabus whatsoever; he completely changed an assignment the last week of the quarter. He is without a doubt one of the worst teachers at UCSB.
He's super monotone; long pauses between thoughts. Asks very simple questions, and won't move on till someone answers. This gets really annoying. Office hours are at weird times, and I feel he avoids talking to students. Zoom university made his class doable. Random pop quizzes are 20% of your grade, and impossible. Only material kept me interested
By far the WORST professor I've ever had. My advice to any students thinking of taking a class with professor Clark AVOID AT ALL COSTS. His instruction in lecture is a DRAG and he does not make it clear what material he wants you to understand! All his readings are useless and the only meaningful help I received was from the TA. DO NOT ENROLL!
I took Clark for a freshman seminar where we went on a weekend field trip. I thought he was the most anal person I'd ever met and he drove me crazy. I then had to take another one of his classes (ES141). It was extremely hard and I thought I was failing the entire quarter. He does not return grades and gives pop quizzes. Avoid Clark at all costs.
The worst professor I have ever seen in UCSB!
This professor gives every indication that he doesn't care about his students or teaching. He is consistently late to class, passive aggressive, and a poor presenter. Grades are not published and you have to track him down on campus to get any work back. Also, the professor referenced my term paper in a lecture without using my name.
This class was very interesting if you paid attention to general chemistry and you find atmospheric toxins concerning. There is a moderate amount of studying involved; i.e. his lecture slides. If you attended lecture, paid attention to processes such as ozone production and acid rain, then his class was a breeze. Otherwise, you might be miserable.
By far the worst professor I have ever had. He has no interest in teaching. Quizzes and midterms have material never covered in the class because he says it is something you should just know. Incredibly boring and awful experience.
i took this during summer session and was glad to get it over with so quickly. veeery boring, but if you pay attention to lecture you can do well on the tests. if you go to see him for help, prepare to hear his opinions on random**** (sometimes interesting, but not always ideal if you have other things to do)
I know some people didn't like him because he is not that funny or entertaining, but I thoroughly enjoyed this class and the information he gave was very interesting. Learned about acid rain, smog, ozone stuff, and ocean chemistry. Tests were predictable, based on homework
If you are an (BA) ES major, you should take Chem 1B/1C. This fellow made me thankful for the quarter system and managed to turn extremely exciting material dull. He does not use his own material, which is poor for a research university professor. His use of the laser pointer also made me dizzy.
this guy is probably intelligent, but he cannot teach for his life. the class take an interesting topic and makes it boring... avoid this class and take 1b and 1c instead!
Single most boring class I've ever taken and probably the worst teacher I've had in a long long time. Super repetitive and makes it incredibly hard to stay awake and even feel like going since the slides are online.
super boring class! he just goes over lecture slides buncha times, but they're online so you don't have to go to class. no complaints with him, but material is boring and repetitive. Section is helpful.
nice guy, but boring class. repeats lecture slides about 10 times so every class seems the same and its impossible to stay awake. instead of spending 10 weeks in this class, you can just watch an Inconvenient Truth and learn the same thing. TAs very helpful, especially with the homework. also, practice tests are almost exactly the same as his exams
i found it was hard studying for this class. I recommend studying his assumptions for each model and looking over your homework.
Such a great guy. He's really funny. If you're taking this class, you're probs an ES major - so you'll enjoy env chem. memorize lecture slides and you'll do fine on tests.
Great professor.
