Do not take!!! Avoid!!!! Worst teacher ever had at ucsb very very unclear boaring lectures. Test are extremely un fair and there are four 4 page papers due that are graded very harshly. Do not take this lady sucks. And her ta does too not chill. does not answer questions at all questions are so vague that they could have multiple answers avoid!

Dry, vague questions and answers , and the TA puts the average of the class at a 70%.

Excellent professor, very knowledgeable. Also super-willing to help students in office hours.

She reads directly from the slides and tells you to focus on the bold information then when you take the exam its nothing like you expected it to be. I would recommend not taking her if you can avoid it

She may like europeans more for her own reasons, but what really matters is that you don't need to do any readings. Just get the lecture slides off the net and the class is an easy "A".

I really appreciated Helen's desire to teach and help her students learn, but there were many other factors that made the class hard to deal with. There was a lot of drama with the TA and Helen's use of GauchoSpace was horrendous. Class probably will be better in the future, but it's a very easy course. Didn't touch the text once.

OMG! So difficult to pay attention bc she is so DRY! Pretty much only talks about Greece, cuz that is her home country. Totally screwed up the final! If you want to just take a class, not show, take the final, then take this class bc you can get the lecture online. The title of the class is deceiving.

Also: lazy, incomprehensible, anti-social, egotistical, favors *Europeans,* cannot directly answer a question of any sort (the most characteristic answer of hers:"well...yes and no.")

To below: you gave me a reason to be glad that you guys get charged tuition up the wazoo. This ethnocentric professor doesn't like Americans anyway, and shows foreigners favoritism. Great teacher!, I found her to be entertaining, knowledgeable, and clear if you pay attention and go to class. She's getting older and she's slow at some things, but I found myself doing really well in her class. I would recommend her to anyone with a positive attitude... this excludes most Americans.

She gave us I-clicker questions and one student asked "are the test questions this vague?" She said no, but it was a lie. Dr.Cook never told the TA what we needed to review for the final. Perhaps the worst experience I've had during my educational career. I feel completely unsatisfied by her attempts to teach or convey information regarding the topic of the course. No factual information was presented nor was there any citation for the information which she did present.

The quarter just ended recently. She's a really fair teacher. Easy grading scale. Hardly have to come to class, really easy. Not too interesting but the information is fun. She's very nice. Easy A or B

A test was given prior to the midterm. multiple choice& short writing. She was lenient on the writein, but multiple choice are unreasonable. Each question rephrases,in her own mind, too-specific passages from the book and some bogus from the useless lecture. She changed the format for the midterm & final. She treated the class like an experiment

I've only met one good teacher in UCSB and the rest are pompous know-it-all self righteous teachers and coo-cooleyley is no exception. Her tests doesn't make sense and her lectures are dull and boring. She should just go back to Greece and teach there. I wonder why when the teacher sucks, the teacher's aide is twice as bad.

Be warned. I got an A- in her class, so I have no bias towards her because of my grade, but she SUCKS--big time. She is the worst professor I've had at UCSB. She is an example of the tenure system failing. She is lazy, and refuses to accept fault or blame for anything she says or does. Lecture is a waste of time and a joke. DO NOT TAKE COOKY!

Pretty easy class, stuck to the textbook and specifies exactly what she wants from you in the midterm and the final, class was let down by bad TA grading.

i was so excited about the class, but the teacher ruined it. you never knew what was going to be tested on and she spoke so slowly it was a joke. going to class was worthless. her powerpoints are not helpful at all. if you want to do well, expect to learn all the material on your own. sections were interesting, all computer labs.

A helpful and interesting teacher. Class can sometimes feel slightly slow but that's because she is reinforcing concepts and making sure everyone knows what's going on.
