TAKE THIS CLASS! This was my favorite class ive taken at UCSB. Though her lectures and readings were heavy, her lectures are so engaging it is easy to stay on track. Her lecture slides also cover every aspect of the readings so if any part of the reading is confusing, she will cover it. I could not stop talking about the class content. the best.

She was a great professor with so much knowledge. It was so great to take her class and I am so honored to have learned from her. She lectures very well - makes it interesting. A lot of reading but the lectures analyze the readings. Midterm and Final and 2 short papers

She will answer any questions and is not hard to work with. 2 tests 1-2 papers, and she gives plenty of information to write about for papers, so they aren't complicated. My favorite part of how her class is structured is that her lectures cover her readings, so they are clearly spelled out for you. very passionate but kinda dense lectures.

AMAZING PROFESSOR! So passionate, informative, not afraid to give her opinion on global affairs. Great lecture slides with tons of information, posted online so you can use them whenever, but her lectures are so good you need to go. Made the law approachable to a Soc major. I would take any class with her and would give her 50 stars if I could

Prof. Hajjar is very knowledgable however I don't think she can teach well. Lectures are extremely, extremely dense (usually 30 slides a day packed with words) and she speaks very quickly. Gradebook was literally the midterm, final, and one paper, and no review guide for the exams. Just praying the TA is a reasonable grader.

Lisa was an amazing professor, class was very very easy. Class was only graded on 2 midterms 1 paper very short based on a movie. She let you know what was going to be on her tests. Attendance not mandatory and she posts her lectures

The fact that this professor teaches human rights, gets spits in the face of it, is appalling. The fact she is still teaching is a horrible reflection of the school. Shame on all parties.

She lectures to the point, minimizing the work outside of class. There is participation, a paper (two options!), and two exams worth equal percentages of your grade. The only homework is reading and watching videos, which talk about content already discussed in the lecture. She is outgoing to students, so it is uncomplicated to ask any questions.

This class is an easy A. 1 paper with extremely extremely loose guidelines and 2 exams with very easy questions that you just have to answer to the best of your ability. Required readings are not necessary at all. Engaging topics. Lisa lectures a bit too fast and her slides can be hard to read, but securing a solid grade is no problem.

Professor Hajjar was a very entertaining lecturer and provided interesting insight with her background in law and sociology during the class. I found the class to be very interesting and not too difficult with just one paper and two tests, it was very easy to manage with other classes. The topics of study were interesting and covered a wide range.

Soc 1 was one of the best UCSB classes I've taken. I took it during winter 22 so her midterm and final was online and it was very interesting.

Highly recommend! If you care at all about social issues, you will enjoy this class. Just go to lecture and section and reread the slides before exams. There's one 500 w paper - do the first option and your future self will thank you. Hajjar is a great lecturer and knows her stuff

I loved this class! The lectures were great and the midterm and final were open book and writing only. I'd recommend this professor.

Great great professor! This was a tough quarter as the midterm and final were cancelled, but I feel like I learned a lot from her. Extremely kind and considerate of student needs. Lectures were interesting and she let the class out early nearly every day. She knows a lot about torture and it was especially interesting to hear her talk about it.

Very nice, passionate and easy to understand. Her slides are super heavy on writing so you basically have to retake all the notes outside of class bc she skips thru them so quick. Uses iclickers for attentdance. Can't speak on her exams bc midterm was cancelled due to an emergency and final was cancelled due to the rona

Honestly one of the easiest classes I have ever taken. I never paid attention in class I just studied the lectures the night before. She was a very kind teacher and took time out to explain things if people needed more help. The in-class assignments were simple and straightforward.

I personally loved having Hajjar as a prof. She was extremely caring and accommodating when a student in our class passed away, even cancelling the in class writing assignment that was scheduled. Her emphasis in Sociology is on torture so those lectures are especially entertaining because she is very opinionated. Overall pretty easy A.

Hajjar is very lively and her lectures are interesting. Attendance is mandatory because she uses iClicker points and participation in section is a big part of the grade. The material and tests are really easy.

One of the easiest classes ive ever taken. If youve ever thought about social equity in your life you can easily get an A. Shes a sweet lecturer with a nice speaking style and lots of anecdotal stories. The only reason attendance is mandatory is for iclicker points, otherwise i slept through the class

An amazing professor; truly knows the information and really makes her students understand the society in a different way. A lot of reading material, but not super difficult to grasp. It's an iClicker class making lecture mandatory, but you actually do need to go to fully understand the class.

Lisa Hajjar is a great Soc1 professor! The assigned readings were reasonable and her lectures were easy to follow. She's very educated and passionate about this subject and it really shows in her talks about various subjects. Also, a very nice grader, mostly everyone got A's on the midterm.

Hajjar is great, she's so passionate about what she does and you can really tell from her enthusiasm during class. She's very knowledgable and funny. The class is fairly easy which makes it easier to absorb the information she's telling you because you don't have to stress about mere memorization just to pass the tests. I highly recommend Hajjar!
