I was REALLY excited to take this class, I have taken some post-colonial lit classes (both abroad and at UCSB) and this was by far the worst. Class time was full of boring plot summaries and "discussion" (but don't EVER try to contradict him, ha). While the material was good, Prieto is too set on his own ideas to dig into any real discussion.
The class has a lot of reading,a good portion of which is confusing and boring to read on your own. He does a good job of making you understand the book and one could get away with not reading. Most of the material didnt interest me so going to class was beneficial yet boring at times. Iclicker quiz everyday for points, midterm, final both written.
Iclicker attendance quiz everyday. a lot fo reading but did none and did fine in the class. very clear lectures and explains all the novels. if i read an A would be no problem. good teacher. go to class and its cake
Uses an iclicker quiz to take attendence. I showed up everyday, but did none of the reading. He is very clear and i understood everything just by his explanation. Very passionate. I ended up doing the some reading for the final, and it was actually pretty interesting. Tests are Essay. If i would have tried, it would have been better, still good
Really nice guy, has a great sense of humor, and is very understanding if you're confused. Likes discussion but is willing to lecture if it is obvious that the reading wasn't understood. Not the easiest grader, but fair. Pretty cute too. :)
amazing professor, very clear and very helpful. Probably my favorite professor so far.
Professor Prieto is the equivalent of a graceful ballet dancer when he's teaching. He flows wonderfully from topic to topic and makes every aspect of the reading interesting. Even though we were in an auditorium class, he still stops to ask opinions! I loved this class. Prieto is also totally dreamy in the gentle intellectual kind of way.
He's wonderful! I took this class as a GE, and I'm glad I did. He certainly knows his stuff and he's very, very nice and accepting of other opinions. All the reading was interesting, and I kept up with it; didn't study much and got a B+. He's not bad to look at either!
knows his material, nice, fair grader, sometimes goes too fast over some concepts/works
This guy is brilliant with languages, and is genuinely concerned with student growth and development. His testing and grading are both very fair-no nasty surprises either. I don't like his preference for the rhetorical question because it can make him seem condescending. He may not mean to be, but he is too enigmatic for his intent to be read.
One of the best profs I've taken at this uni. He's excellent because he is receptive to the class' level/needs, which is not as common as it should be. He encourages everyone to speak their minds which is what this class was all about. He's very professional/organized & knows the material very well. It was a pleasure to be taught by such an intelli
professor prieto is a great lecturer although he tends to go really fast sometimes. his lectures fly by and its easily to get distracted by his good looks! very attractive man and very interesting topic. the midterm wasnt that bad, i havent taken the final yet so we'll see.
He's very fair. You have to keep up with the reading, and learn to analize it the way he does in class, and you'll do fine on the midterms and papers. Really open minded and nice guy, loved the class.
Prof. Prieto was one of my favorite professors. Though he has his own ideas, he very willing to hear others' opinions. Very engaging!
