He is one of the most difficult professors I have ever had. He handed out an assignment for discrete mathematics that people with a post grad mathematics degrees had problems solving. I would highly recommend if at all possible taking the course from a different professor, he seems more interested in his research instead of teaching students.
Even though the class is pretty difficult, Professor Egecioglu is pretty accommodating. With the whole pandemic going on, he made it so our grade would only be based on weekly homework (no midterm or final). He also dropped the lowest graded hw and gave an additional assignment that would only help your grade. Definitely does not deserve the hate.
During the ridiculously long lectures there are just tons of topics that are thrown at you, which are all, in fact, stuffs in the textbook. Being really harsh when grading your homeworks, a slight mistake could end up taking you all the points of the question. Endeavored to keep his responses to your questions as short as possible.
Not a great teacher. Learn from the book and you will pass. Homework problems are graded randomly so do all of them. Study for exams.
Great professor!
Boring professor, his lectures don't relate to the homework all that well. You'll end up teaching yourself everything from the textbook. You get the feeling that Omer thinks he's funny, couldn't be further from the truth. I recommend you see if literally any other professor is available. TAs were great though.
This class is absolutely unforgiving, there are no easy points. Reading the textbook and learning independently is important. That being said, I got a lot out of this class, and the content covered is very interesting. I liked Omer as a professor - if the material covered wasn't so difficult I'd definitely take him again.
I'm gonna guess this guy is a great researcher or whatever, because as a teacher, he's one of the worst professors I've ever experienced. Lectures are hard to follow since he doesn't have a coherent train of thought, and he has a snide attitude when asked questions. Unresponsive to questions on his own Piazza forum. His grading policy is a joke.
He decided to grade half the homeworks, and assigned a score based only on the problems he decided to grade, so the homework grade was basically RNG unless you got 100%. To make matters worse, HW is 40% of the course total. He thinks he's funny, but in reality, his lectures are dry, he's crass, and he's just not an effective teacher. Avoid him.
Class was ridiculous. He doesn't tell you what your grade is on any of the homeworks. His lectures are honestly terrible; many are confusing and if you ask clarifying questions his explanations typically leave you even more confused. Final was extremely long and the average grade was a 56% but he refused to curve. Avoid this class at all costs.
This class was ridiculously brutal. I lucked out getting my grade since I did well on the first midterm. You can't understand him and he refuses to grade. Lied about his grading scale: he said that there would be no - or + grades yet a large majority of the class got C- grades, which "coincidentally" doesn't count as a prereq for the upperdivisions
The absolute worse teacher ever
Unfortunately one of the worst professors I've ever had -Gives no feedback on homework -Said he would curve the class, never did, average on the final was a 58 percent -Said no + or - on his grading scale yet two of my friends got a c+ and c- -Horrible and boring lecturer, but overall a decent guy -Makes bad jokes in class thinking he's funny
Class gets difficult quickly. Lots of lecture time is wasted with examples that are irrelevant for the homework. Notes are hard to follow if you gaze off for a second, and he isn't good at answering basic questions. 30% of the class failed because he doesn't curve. The only good things are that the class is generally interesting, and he is funny.
Prof. Egecioglu is a nice guy but a horrible professor that doesnt teach anything that he puts on his homework. His final was impossibly long (22 questions with 50 parts total). The average on the final was 82/140 and he refused to curve the class. I would highly recommend that you dont take this class with this professor.
As hard as this class was, I think Prof. Egecioglu taught it well. The homework was very difficult, but a solid understanding of the homework made the tests significantly easier. His lectures are critical to understanding the concepts that he tests, but I would definitely recommend supplementing them with reading the textbook.
Failed like more than 40% of the class. Honestly a pretty annoying guy but he thought he was such a cool guy. There were no easy points. I really should have read the book more cause he does all his work on a whiteboard so there's nothing to post online. Doesn't use Gauchospace, it's closed to students. Class gets really hard in the middle to end
Failed near half the class after falsely claiming there would be no "+"s or "-"s on your grade, leaving people failing with C-s after the syllabus claimed that any C wouldn't have a suffix attached to it. The class average on the final was under 60% when you needed a 70 for a "C," or realistically a C-.
Very good professor, lectures were easy to follow and he explains everything very well. The content itself wasn't very interesting, but he made it easy to learn. Homework had some proofs in it, so it may or may not be difficult depending on how much experience with proofs you have.
He's a very nice, and cute (as in the grandpa-like) professor! His lectures cover all you need to know for the labs and the midterms/finals!! So be sure to attend them. Nearly 50% of this class is based on group labs and homework which are real easy points. So if you can still receive an A with a B average in exams!
The professor is really cute and his lectures are good. Make sure to go to lecture though because he does test on lecture material (though lecture material is put on his website). You're allowed a cheat sheet for his tests and he gives one homework assignment a week that are relatively easy. And then partnered labs are done during section.
Great professor! a cutie when he lectures, and very friendly and clear, will answer questions and the tests arent hard if you do a bit of studying
First of all, he's definitely a rude professor. His class is actually straightforward, there's just HW, a midterm, and a final, but the tests are much harder in difficulty compared to the HW. Also he isn't great at lecturing at all and often times skips over stuff because he'll assume that you understand it.
I thought Professor Egecioglu was an amazing professor. His lectures were at times a little boring but he is very helpful in explaining and clarifying the labs(which are pretty difficult) that are done in section. The labs are very helpful in learning the material, and doing them and understanding them should help a lot for the midterm and final!
