I took this class as a freshman and loved it. Lectures are very easy to follow and she gives great examples to help you understand. I highly recommend going to office hours, she is very helpful. There are only two tests, both multiple choice. As long as you study and know the material, the test are pretty straight-forward.
I don't get the low ratings here because she's fantastic! She's a ball of sunshine and she really exerts that positive energy onto the students who take the time to talk to her. Her lectures are clear, detailed, and engaging. She's very passionate and wants her students to learn, not study. Make sure you study examples for each term for the tests!
I loved her for pysch 102, but then took this course and OH HELL NO, she ruined the class, horrible and boring and so repetitve I didnt want to show up anymore but had too.
HORRIBLE. 1 of my fav subjects in psych. She ruined it for me. Still a great course,but if possible take w/ANY OTHER PROFESSOR. She has a certain attitude-it made me not want to go to class,but I went to every one. If you don't mind when someone treats others as insignificant & unimportant, go ahead. I just expected more from a social psychologist.
Great class, i enjoyed every lecture. Really made me interested in social psychology. about 90% of the info you need is in the book, but chapters are pretty long. very interesting book but super time consuming. i didnt think the class was too hard, but the tests were a bit ambiguous if you didnt know the material.
The professor was passionate about the subject, but the tests are poorly written. They are confusing b/c the answers are ambiguous, and more than one could be correct. Only C I received at UCSB. Text book is great, lectures not so much. Take at your own risk!
Doctor Major is a great and fun teacher and she definitely sparks your interest in social psychology. Her class is not too difficult and her lecture slides are basically all you need to study for the tests. She makes her lectures enjoyable and thoroughly explains all topics. Would recommend this class to anyone and everyone!
40/60 midterm/final, and thats it! loved her, loved the material, only got a C because i never did the readings. Would recommend her, you just have to read and then the tests will be easy.
Profs exams were ambiguous and confusing. For instance, the text clearly stated a main component of a Type A personality is hostility, but on her exam "mistrust" was supposed to represent the term "hostility", this type of confusion does not help, students have to guess. She is passionate about the subject, and means well, but exams just kill it!
1 multiple choice midterm and final for your entire grade. Definitely go to class to get the concepts and in order to do well.
Great teacher. The class is interesting and she does a good job teaching the material. She goes quick in lecture so take notes fast. Also if you don't go to class you probably won't get an A. Tests are fair and she gives a study guide. Know definitions of key terms and the main experiments. Not too hard of a class
ehhh she was whatevs. She doesn't post lectures online. Reading the book is crucial (90% of lecture is taken from book) I was really disappointed in this class. I taught myself everything (I attended all her lectures and they didn't really help)
She was a great professor. Really cared about students and introducing us to the various fields of Psychology. The class was an easy A and a great way to get honors units.
Told us from the beginning this class would be an easy A. Prof Major is extremely friendly and approachable, and wants to introduce students to the research, labs, and professors on campus.
Dr. Major is completely intriguing and knows the course material well. She expects a lot out of her students and her tests are difficult but manageable if you study. I would recommend her for any course offered.
Taking her class was one of the worst experiences of my life. She treats students with disdain and obviously would rather not deal with us or have to teach at all. What a disappointment!
Material would be interesting if she was remotely interested in students. It's obvious that she's just faking being nice (she's not very good at it). She is condescending to students and has no interest in any opinion that deviates from her own, which is not how a scientist should behave in my opinion. Not a nice person and not a good teacher.
Lectures are clear, interesting. The book was pretty useful, the tests were fair, and the subject matter was really intriguing.
A very good professor. She is very friendly and approachable. We had dinner at her house once, very nice and understanding of students. Assignments are not hard, and are interesting. Only problem is that the guest speakers can be boring. Participate in class + do several small assignments = get an A. Warning: long paper for spring quarter. 15pgs.
Thoroughly knowledgeable on the subject. One of the leading minds in the field. Just make sure to pay attention in her courses.
This professor knows her stuff. She definitely has an opinion, but she is very approachable if you come with a good attitude and effort. Go to the review session! It helps!

I completed my BA at UCSB and overall totally disappointed with the experience. I found her class difficult, but outside of the classroom she is extremely informative. I'm not saying easy to talk to, but definetly knows her stuff and a great resource for me.
