Holy cow this lady is scary! Picks on students for not knowing obscure, tangentially related information and shames them for attempting to answer a question. Will literally tell you you're obviously too dumb to be in her class. BEWARE. She probably has voodoo dolls of you at home...Also, not important, but looks like a homeless, loony bin escapee.
Abigail is something else!! On the one hand she is so damn intelligent and on the other she is a complete nut job!! She is extremely knowledgeable in her field but she is yet another professor who has an amazing amount of intelligence and absolutely no knowledge on how to articulate it to students!
should be teaching graduates, NOT undergrads! My favorite comment she made to me: "Why are you majoring in art history? It's such a useless major! What are you ever going to do with it?" :) It made me smile. Though the class was rather impossible & her grading was VERY difficult, looking back on it, I really enjoyed this class.
Good lord! Is ol' Abby hard to understand! Between the smoking breaks she took during tests to her ineptness at all things technological, it is a wonder I came out of that class with a B+! She brilliant & a sweetheart who loves helping during office hours, but she's SO difficult to understand. The book (Herbert) is CRUCIAL & is an interesting read!
LOSING HER MIND! She can't use powerpoint let alone turn on the computer and you spend 15 min watching her play with wires and buttons.papers have nothing to do with lecture. She is sooo bad! Not an easy class either.
SHE IS SO RIDICULOUSLY CRAZY! i cant believe that a university like this would have a teacher who so clearly is losing her mind. She may know what she is talking about, but she doesnt know how to teach a damn thing and the tests have absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the class. I will NEVER take a class with her again.
Solomon-Godeau offers innovative, controversial interpretations to today's opinions on gender. I would definitely recommend her gender studies courses (arthi 143b/c). The analysis and theory she gives for images and paintings is brilliant. Difficult class, but the hard material is worth the eye-opening you get.
WORST PROFESSOR I have had at UCSB! She should be fired. She is crazy....she lost my midterm!
great professor, very interesting to watch and laugh with.
I just had to comment on the previous rating: "your and idiot"???? This doesn't convince me that she's wrong.
The TA was the saving grace.
She's a scholar, it's so exciting that you, of all people, get to study under her...then the reality sets in and you're sitting in her office with the door closed while she smokes.
an angry old lady, who spends half the class telling you why your and idiot rather then teaching you.
her lectures are usually very interesting, even though she expects her students to know most of the paintings' historical background already(even though the class has no prerequisites). very intelligent and, if you put effort into the class, you will get a lot out of it. would recommend.
prof use to teaching graduate students and not undergrads. she taught theory rather than history. if you like art history theory this is a great class but content was not clearly expressed by the teacher. great TA, Veronica Roberts
What a whackjob. Very knowledgeable but makes you feel like dirt. Has trouble conveying the material to her students. At times she seemingly questions your worthiness of listening to her speak. TA Veronica Roberts is absolutely amazing. Best Ta I've ever had. Worth it if VR is there.
she is so well versed and well educated in her field that it appears she has trouble conveying her knowledge to undergraduates. this notion is supported by the TA of the class (who, by the way, is an amazing TA-veronica roberts). highly theoretical content. not a normal history of photog class.
