Prof Stohl is one of the best in the Comm department. She knows what she is talking about and has a straightforward, stern but also friendly attitude. The class is going to be tough but it's worth it to put in the work.
No final which was nice but 2 exams both worth 40% of our grade (one was given during Thanksgiving week which was annoying). Lots of backhanded comments and was not nice to our TA who was such a sweet guy. Knows a lot about her field and is very respected in the communication world.
She is so brilliant and knows so much about her field. I took 175 Gig Work with her and she made the class a breeze and still kept it insanely interesting and applicable. Each assignment was just building up to our final paper- no tests. By the time the essay was due, I had it half finished. Do yourself a favor and take a class of hers!
My favorite professor at UCSB! She really cares about students and is so interested in what she teaches. This course focuses on organizational communication in the global context. There isn't much theory, but rather real-life relevancy. Weekly assignments are based on applying concepts to a multinational organization. There lots of extra credit!
Professor Stohl is super nice and caring. The weekly assignments aren't bad, they are just busy work. Can be graded somewhat harshly, but she provides a lot of feedback that is helpful.
Absolutely the best professor I have ever had! Intriguing class lectures and really cares about her students. She drove me further in my career path and even helped me with grad school applications! You're missing out if you do not take her!
Not gonna lie, the exams are tough but Cynthia cares so much about her students. I emailed her during one of my daily mental breakdown asking for an extension. She immediately asked if I could join a zoom meeting with her in which she got me the mental health care I needed. Her tests might be tough, but her heart is pure gold.
She was very nice and understanding. The class was very interesting but did have two big papers and hard mid-term. I did like that that final was optional though. Be prepared to work though, lots of assignments. Would take again.
DON NOT CHOOSE HER! She is one of the worse professors I ever met. she is a tough grader. The most ridiculous thing is that instead of giving grading guidelines before the exams, she gave it after! Also, she made the online learning more difficult : always uploaded wrong lectures. Bascially, we get nothing back after so many efforts put on it.
Didn't really like the class. The material was very interesting but the way she taught was frustrating at times. The projects were always very ambiguous and left the majority of the class confused most of the time. She did let us have an optional final and there was no textbook required. Always felt like there was so much work due weekly though.
One of my favorite professors at UCSB. Professor Stohl gets you to think outside the box and I genuinely enjoyed going to class.
great prof
Stohl is an amazing woman who really understands her discipline and does a great job of getting your attention and interest. She's funny and entertaining, too. Her class was difficult, readings were mandatory because you have to incorporate them on the tests. If you don't fully grasp what she's teaching the tests will be really challenging.
This class made me fall back in love with the Communication discipline - Stohl is funny and has amazing life stories to share. This class is SO relevant and applicable to your life. Her tests are not too bad - but you have to know your stuff. A mix of short answer, essay and matching/true false. I loved her, will take her again soon. Online reading
Super smart women. Her class has been my favorite at UCSB thus far. You will learn real life lessons in her class that can be applied to everyday life. However, her powerpoints are not the best, so do not expect to go to class and not follow her lecture. Go to class, listen to lecture, DO THE READINGS. Those readings will help in your exams!!!!!!!!
Witty, bright, and kind of a nutty lady. Her powerpoints are messy and not really helpful so you have to go to class to make sense of them. I loved the course material--very applicable to real life and very interesting. Cynthia is engaging and hilarious. Definitely recommend the class despite some of its shortcomings
I love her. I've taken social networks too and I learned so much from her. She's definitely a little scattered and powerpoints are kinda all over the place, but she really knows what she's talking about and she cares about the big picture of life instead of just giving you stupid work. One big project that's interesting and fun. I'd take it again
Worst professor I've ever taken at UCSB. very scattered, even if you attend every class, you have no idea what the class is even about. STAY AWAY FROM HER. My first C at UCSB. SO MAD.
Ppts were super confusing- you had to go to class to get what she was even talking about. No text but alot of articles and reading. But otherwise she really does care- almost too much in my opinion but she's lively. I thought I was gonna do bad in this class-I was wrong! Her tests are actually pretty easy - general understanding is impt.
Take her if you want to get real life lessons and advice for your future career. Very knowledgeable, experienced, and approachable. Hard class with lots of readings and essay tests, but totally doable if you're dedicated. Got A's in both of her classes . Get to know her, she's a great connection.
All she does is talk about herself. Can't stand her. Glad to be graduating and never have to see her again. Awful. She totally plays favorites, and if you're not the type to kiss up to her, she'll legitimately call you out in front of the class. She's horrible.
Professor Stohl is amazing! she really loves what she does and she makes the material applicable to your everyday life. If you have the chance to take her then you definitely should! she is so helpful and really tries to get to know her students
Prof. Stohl, like many of the comm professors at UCSB, is completely inspiring. Despite being held in a huge lecture hall she made it feel personalized and like she really cared about the opinions of her students. MUST TAKE!
Took Org Comm from a Global Perspective. Great, interesting class. Stohl is really helpful. Lots of readings (which you really have to do), but she put it all online so we didn't have to buy a reader. We also got the book we used for free. There's a big individual project, but it was fun as far as projects go. I highly recommend this class.
