If you want to save on tuition, get a better education, and graduate with better grades, avoid this class at all costs. I'll say it again: This is one of the worst of the worst among UCSB faculty. The choice is yours. If you want to ruin the most important period of your life, your college years, by all means, take this professor's class.

He's very knowledgeable about silent films and a lot of the information presented is very interesting. But in the online format, the lectures are very dry and slow. He also poorly communicates with the class about due dates and overall class expectations and then is annoyed when people don't know things.

Professor Driskel can't teach in the world of online learning. The assignments are all cake, but only if you can sift through his dry lectures to piece together what exactly is expected of you. He blames students' disinterest and confusion on apathy rather than his poor teaching & organizational skills. He's great in person but unbearable online

The best professor at UCSB hands down. I took his archiving course Spring 2018 & the course quite literally changed my path at UCSB. I began volunteering my free time at the archive & then with Dana's help, working there. Dana is a fantastic professor who is blunt but very caring, helpful & inspiring. He is always willing to help and offer insight.

Did not expect to be drawing in this class, but Driskel helps you along if you're not familiar with making animation. He's always available to help you and tries to accommodate everyone. Also really good class if you wanna expand your knowledge of unconventional animation films.

Dana is undoubtedly the best professor I have had at UCSB. He is intelligent and kind and passionate about what he does. He is a wonderland of information and is more than willing to help with anything you need. Yes, he is very cut and dry and brutally honest but that is what makes him great. If given the opportunity, I highly recommend taking him.

Wimps need not sign up for FS 106. Dana won't allow you to give in this class. Can't hack it? Change your major.

Dana is an odd prof, on the 1 hand his lectures were really interesting & he's a likeable enough guy, but he grades like a mofo so...make sure you are getting a good grade or else take it p/f. o & btw, actually making an animation is the PAIN but its cool to see ur very own Red Ball on screen
