Amazing lecturer--deeply insightful and knows how to engage an audience. Workload consists of a few written assignments, pass/no pass tests, occasional quick-writes during lecture, and 5 Gauchospace forum posts every 2 weeks. Graded on mobility/development of thought so how you demonstrate understanding of course ideas.

If it wasn't for Jason Raley I never would have written my Masters Thesis. He sat with me and bounced ideas with me when I was struggling. Took many of his education classes and it was always a great experience. If you have to take 1 education class, I would take anything taught by him!

Hes a great teacher, hands down. The only I want to say is the fact I feel sorry for him where his dedication also made him stick around during Spring Break, for office hours; feel as if he deserves a better break considering how much of a great professor he is.

BEST CLASS EVER TAKEN

I took this class based on the good review, but honestly I got very little out of the class. It really does drag out and was not what I was hoping for. Nothing personal against Raley, I just didnt like the class.

Sorry, but this class was not what I hoped. Raley does go against traditional schooling methods...but he does so by talking to us like we're babies. He says the same thing over and over again so you feel like lectures are a waste of time. The content of the class is valuable, but could be taught in 2 weeks rather than 10. it was draaaagged out.

You don't want to miss out of taking one of Jason's classes. without a doubt the best professor I've had at UCSB. I've never been more interested, more engaged, and felt like a professor really cared about his students. His lectures are interesting and extremely engaging. He teaches for students to learn. not to evaluate them. Best class at ucsb.

He is simply one of the best professors at UCSB. He's hilarious, interesting, and flat out awesome. The course itself is pretty easy if you are willing to "think outside the box".

best professor on campus. two words: TAKE HIM

Finish the min. requirements and you are guaranteed an A. miss any of them and hell knock over 10% of your grade down. Raley tries to give interesting and provoking lectures with a passion and succeeds. he performed well and made me think during every lecture, but towards the end of the quarter the class is a bore and is very redundant. i recommend

Really Great Professor. I feel like i learned a great deal. This class is interesting and useful for everyday life. His lectures are very unorthodox but interesting. As long as you do the work you will do well.

Trust me, you've NEVER taken a class like this one before. The entire purpose of this class is to LEARN, not to be evaluated. I feel like I really can have more meaningful, deeper conversations about schooling now. I recommend this class to everyone. It's very unorthodox (for good reason too, as you'll soon learn)and very rewarding.

Raley is an excellent professor. He has a way of making all material interesting. Since I took one of his graduate courses discussion was heavily emphasized and grades were not. Attendance and completely assignments were considered mandatory, but Raley's passion made them worth doing!

I actually have a place on my binder, on which I have written: "What would Jason Raley do?" <3

I think students are missing the point of his class. It's not about how easy or hard the class is the purpose is to get something out of that class aside from the "good" grade. He is such an amazing professor. Discussions, lectures, and the way he structures his class is all great. This is not the cls you'd want to miss at all.

Jason is an excellent professor! He's not just a researcher and professor, he's ACTUALLY a teacher! Expect to learn much and work hard, but you will leave his course enlightened.

Really good class. If you like a lot of structure it may not be for you, but he is passionate about his field. Easy A, entertaining lectures and I would recommend it to anyone.

Very good class. He brings a new style and makes an impact on everyone. You will most likely leave his class with a different perspective. The only problem I see in him, is his the way he structures the class and he tends to be somewhat disorganized. He should also be a little more clear and direct with how he really feels about certain issues.

He is AMAZING! He's got tons and I mean TONS of energy! I am so happy I took this class, he's such a good teacher and really easy! The midterm was a one page paper and the final is an art project! He is so passionate about teaching and is really interested that you learn. great prof.

A delight. He takes his students and what they have to say seriously. Readings chosen are excellent; assignments relevant. Is more humble that others here have suggested.

Prof. Raley is absolutely amazing. I wasn't really interested in the class at the beginning, but by the end, I was enthralled. His lectures are interesting, but are also very flexible depending on the direction that discussion goes. He is knowledgeable, but is also great at listening to what students have to say.
