She is humorous and intelligent old lady, and she is passionate toward art and supportive to young artist. 7B Lectures are interesting, and studio projects are well designed and has a lot of fun. Definitely a good class to take
She knows her stuff, very specific and never lets you shortcut anything.
Great teacher. Fast class, not the most stimulating assigned work, but that's pretty standard for the 7 series. She does her best with the curriculum though and is a fantastic lecturer. Work hard, you'll be a better artist for it! She's great to have on your side too if you ever need someone to vouch for you. She's got clout.
Lectures are very long and mandatory.. class with really cool art projects though! you do have to study on terms+concepts if you are new to art, cool TAs but some of my classmates thought they graded pretty hard..
demanding but awesome teacher, she really cares about your creativity and imagination, works you hard, but you learn a lot. even though she's older she's more with it than most, like with street art.
She can be funny &sarcastic, but when it comes to your art work, she will flat out tell you that what you're creating is not art. She provides NO guidance whatsoever. You're on your own in this class. All she offers is criticism ¬hing else. If you're sensitive, don't take this class. If you need guidance from a teacher, don't take this class.
definitely not the best teacher (not the best person either). she was very vague on the project guidelines and it was only after we misunderstood the directions that she told us what we were meant to do. I wouldn't recommend a class with her... she's too insecure to even acknowledge when her students do good work, so all of her feedback is negative
I hated this class and was an art major until this class. I got a C- and i was at every lecture and section even when i had mono! I also turned in good projects adn received dencent grades. She is boring and not very understanding.

I have nothing but the utmost respect for Laurel. It's long since I've been a student of hers, but I feel she is definitely one I learned the most from in my experience at UCSB. Now admittedly, I did run into some heat with her at one point (I'll admit I really didn't know what I was doing back then, and wasn't clear about it when I spoke about it, such is growing up I guess), but it was a valuable experience to go through. Take a class with her and learn as much as you can. She's tough, but so is life
Laurel is expects a lot from her students and pushes you hard for results... but you create amazing things.... she sees through BS really fast... she is top in her field of print so u gotta respect that.... dont joke around about sexual/bad words/anything
Laurel is one hell of a solid person. A great teacher overflowing with insight, she's a bit intimidating at first.
