This is the most confusing grammar teacher! My notes were always unorganized and erratic because that's how she explains things. She rarely uses the white board for examples, she'll just badly explain essential grammar rules & expect you to understand. I struggled in the class and went to her for help only to get condescending, non helpful replies.
Professor Schultz is wonderful! The transition to intermediate French is definitely difficult and requires a level of understanding and attention to detail, but Prof. Schultz was always available to clarify any questions we had. You will get the grade you work for in this class. Jean Schultz is the gem of the French department!
I had Schultz for French 2-6 and she is honestly my favorite professor at UCSB. She cares so much about her students and is so flexible and understanding. That being said, she really appreciates genuine effort so show her that you care and it will pay off. She wants learning French to be fun, not stressful! Lots of extra credit opportunities.
I absolutely loved her class. I learned so much. She recognizes hard work and rewards you for it. She cares about her students, and she grades fairly. Yes, she lectures all in French, but that actually forces you to LEARN the language. She is available during office hours for a one-on-one. She also offers extra credit opportunity.
Do not take if you actually want to express yourself in French. The courses are fill in the blank grammar on paper. The textbook and online homework are so expensive and barely necessary to learn the material (the prof is the author of it, surprise!). Learn a different language if you must at UCSB.
Jean Schultz is like the mommy of the french department! Yes, she may seem intimidating at first but she really cares about her students and wants you to do well. Don't expect her to grade as easily as the TA's but I got an A so just do the homework and you'll be fine!
She's sweet in person but in class she can be kind of intimidating. She expects students to already know the material before it's even been introduced to us, which is ridiculous in my opinion. You learn a lot from her but it can be stressful at times since she calls on students randomly and if you don't have the right answer you're screwed.
She'll only give good grades to the over-achievers. She expects her students to already know that which she is supposed to teach. The fact that she considered to be a high ranking Prof. in the department is laughable and causes one to question the hiring process of the UCs. Only take French 1 if you speak French fluently.
Madame Schultz was a wonderful teacher! She really believes in her students and wants everyone to succeed. She's available for help even though she is really busy. She makes an effort to learn everyone's names and was pretty clear in her expectations. Learned alot from her and I know I'll do well in future French classes because of her!
She is a thorough and helpful instructor! I loved her class!
Extremely helpful and understanding. If u are going to take her make sure u study well before midterms and finals! review sessions are given and u will be ready in no-time!
Talk about AMBIGUOUS/UNORGANIZED. She was pretty laid-back which is okay if your having drinks, but in the classroom clear direction is necessary, right? I didn't understand her explanations 90% of the time so I had to rely on the texts for the bulk of the material. I dont understand what these other ppl are saying, she's honestly not a good teache
sweet lady. knows her stuff. its better taking french from someone who speaks it as a 2nd language like her. wants students to do well.. id take her again
she is so nice! she answered all my questions during her office hours and made me want to continue learning french. i definitely recommend her!!
She is very clear and helpful. She tries to keep the class pretty light-hearted and fun by adding comical anecdotes
mrs schultz is so nice and very clear. Also, all you have to do is go up to her if you dont understand or if you have a problem w/the hmwk or tests she will help you. Also if u have a personal issue she will give u some slack.she also loves french. you guys are idiots if you dont like schultz.highly recommend.
Great and really helpful teacher!
Nice but this class sucks and is hard. Also, not as good as some of the other teachers about giving out supplimentary study guides for the final and stuff. She is easier to understand than some the of native french speaker teachers
I loved Schultz as a teacher. She is clear, helpful, and she teaches french grammar very clearly. It is easier to learn french grammar from a french-as-second-language prof than from a francophone.
Would have liked to learn french from FRANCE and not Canada or Louisiana... would have been nice to have been treated like a human being too. I DONT reccommend Schultz... run while you can!
