Long useless lectures. Didn't know how to use a laptop. Rude towards students with questions or wrong answers. Assignments and lectures are not even parallel. Avoid if possible.

This was absolutely the worst professor that UCSB could have placed to teach Java. If you ask him a question, what's his first response? "Read the book". Why go to office hours, why attend lecture if he is obviously not interested in the course? His projects were like making me write a sentence in French without teaching me the nouns or verbs?

One of the worst professors I've had. He's extremely ignorant. Lectures are confusing and useless, and homework is tedious. The professor is often confused when students ask questions, and instead makes you feel dumb by questioning how you don't know the answer rather than just helping. Avoid at ALL costs if you actually want to learn something.

He's truly a terrible teacher. Hard tests. Stupid hard homework. His lecture is probably the most useless thing you can attend. So if you can, avoid this guy. Please. I have to redo this class because he was such a bad teacher.

Doesn't really lecture about anything. Expects students to learn by doing projects and reading the book. Attendance was very...sparse.

He seems obsessed with this thing called Mandelbrot set; all assignments are based on that. You might as well just skip every lecture because it is practically useless. He goes over codes that are unhelpful. Nobody knows what to study for his test because nobody knows what he taught us in lecture, even those who went to lecture.

Lectures are all powerpoints and he gives us all the slides for the quarter on day 1. Pretty useless going to class. Exams were ok, you just have to study everything yourself. He basically reads off the slides... which you can do yourself at home.

Cappello had a good class setup. The exams were fair, but you have to study all problems that he's supplied and practice problems. The curve can be harsh or helpful.

Please, please, please read the Rosen textbook! And, make sure to do supplemental practice problems. Also, while you're at it, go to the TA and the professor's office hours. Ask questions (email or OH)! Math is not my strong subject, but I learned an incredible amount of material in Cappello's CS40 course. While sometimes confusing, he does care.

Cappello's lectures leave much to be desired. What he discusses in class has little relevance to the large class project. Luckily the majority of the grade is based on the project, so it isn't very important to attend the lectures after project teams are assigned.

very friendly, but lazy, or so it seems. not sure if he's knowledgeable in computer science overall. probably not because he sometimes has trouble using pc.

The lectures were horrible and the midterm was unfair but the grading and expectations of the project were fine. Ok class but beware of that midterm.

The lectures are boring, but that is in part because the course doesn't really need 10 weeks of lectures. Would be better if the class had 3 or 4 weeks of lecture followed by 5-6 weeks of a large disscussion/lab with a few TAs
