Kip is amazing! If you show dedication, he will help you grow immensely as an artist.
I love Professor Kip! He is an amazing lecturer and you can tell he really cares about the subject and his students. The projects were interesting and gave students a lot of artistic license. If you like art, you will love Kip. But, if you are only taking this for a GE and don't care about the subject, you probably will not like the class.
Good speaker, inspiring, interesting, but rude. The most awful thing is to have political related topics in class. PLEASE STOP MENTIONING ANY POLITICAL ISSUES AS "ART" DURING THE LECTURE!
He takes advantage of the most marginalized students because we are the ones who turn to personal narrative. He pushes students to overshare because his classes are more for voyeurism than expression. Me and a few friends all took his class and liked him at first and due to his conduct we ended up with more trust issues.
I learned a lot from this class, I definitely recommend taking it! In order to do well though you must be willing to be very vulnerable. The class dynamic is super refreshing because its a lot different from the rest of your classes since its centered around the intersection of art/ life and everything else in between. (No essays or midterm)
cool dude don't get me wrong. I loved everything about the seminar. but I've come to realize he's a little conceited and tells the same stories over and over again which I find annoying. good teacher tho. just needs to be grounded a little. only assignment is to read HIS book about HIS life in the seminar lol
So, this is tough. I absolutely loved this class. I loved my TA. I'm very much and introvert, not performance oriented. I put my whole heart and soul into this class because I truly wanted to grow as a person. It was painful and hard and a little grueling, but I was still graded harshly. I'd take it again, but keep in mind it's emotionally hard.
Kip is awesome. Anyone and everyone from any major should take at least one class with him. His classes have changed my life immensely.
Great professor, but impossibly hard grader. Very inspirational, but Kip is pretty full of himself and is not easily impressed.
Kip was amazing. I loved his class-lectures, AND sections (probably because my TA was absolutely amazing). Despite lecture being 2 hours long, they flew by super fast and I was always looking forward to going to class. You will definitely need to jump out of your comfort zone for the projects but it's worth it! AN AMAZING CLASS. LOVED ITTTT!!!
Kips classes are meant to be challenging...Do NOT take his class if you just want an easy class. That is not the purpose or goal of his courses. If you want to learn about yourself, and learn your own limits - take this class. Kip has given me confidence and shown me that my story counts. I'd say that's a pretty rad teacher...
Kip grades based on how hard you try. Those who whine about subjectivity usually did not try hard enough and are bitter about it. He is unafraid to admit his own insecurities everyday, which is why he is so good at helping his students find their own source of confidence and inspiration. You'll leave this class richer in all ways!
Kip's teaching style either works great or is just not right for you; it's up to you to decide. More importantly, it's up to you to push your own boundaries and expectations. Those who complain usually fail to put in enough effort to step out of their comfort zones and explore new aspects of themselves. This class will change your life. Take it.
His grading is subjective and not totally based on any one factor. If you are cute and female you will do better than most. His insecurity with his self-identity is evident in the type of art he creates. Fulbeck will use his grading scale subjectively and without and integrity. I graduated all honors and artist of the year, no thanks to kip!
THE BEST teacher for creative studies. He is loud, creative, clear, intelligent, and I would honestly go to the lecture when I wasnt enrolled in the class. MUST TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU CAN!
projects tend to be more performance-based (albeit open ended). but the art he exposes you to in class is overwhelmingly diverse. fast talker and good orator. if you can see past his politics and slightly intimidating presence he has a lot to teach and he is passionate about it in a way you will rarely see at this university, or anywhere.
Boring and quite rude.
Lectures went by fast, were always interesting and inspiring. He's quite funny too. Sections were pointless. Sometimes we just sat there. I guess it depends on your TA. You will definitely remember this class, though. Wait til you get to the final...
Really fun class, he is awesome!!!!!!
KIP IS HOTT!!~ you gotta get creative for this class. section feels like a waste of time. lectures are AMAZING! projects are kind of challenging but worth it!
Hands down. This class was definitely the most memorable of all my college courses. Kip challenged me to think freely and open mindedly and I learned so much in that short amount of time about creativity and not being afraid of what people will think about you. This class is not for the faint of heart. You really need to put everything you’ve g
Kip blew my mind.
totally overrated and totally ful(beck) of himself. if you're a dude, you'll love this guy. if you are an intelligent woman you'll probably find him charming, but definitely snakey. he takes his work seriously, but his overactive libido and ego will someday ruin him. he totally screwed me over. i should have reported him.
This freshman seminar was pretty much a waste of my time. A lot of people liked it, so I know I am in the minority. But I thought the seminar was of little worth. I ended up leaving the class learning nothing.
