He's a good professor who cares about the students. He is not too difficult, all you need to do is put a little effort into the class. I'd would recommend taking him.
Very helpful and a nice guy. He really wants his students to succeed. I thought that he was a bad teacher at first, and then I realized that I just wasn't paying attention.
De Vries tries to make his class interesting and he's a nice man. However, class seems sometimes as useless information and most things I learned in CLAS. His tests are relatively easy. I'd say take him if you need a small break from the beat downs from other chem. teachers. He does have a general interest for his students to learn, though.
Recycles questions, so make sure you do the practice tests on his website. Going to lecture isn't mandatory, but it helps on the tests. Overall he was okay, but very uninteresting. I wouldn't take him again because of the bad lectures. But if you want an easy A, take him.
Lectures were boring, but the concepts were easy to understand and overall, I remember the majority of what he taught. Easy tests and homework takes no time. Aced the class with with an A- on the final, 100% on homework, 100% on iClicker participation, and a B and C- on the midterms.
De vries is awesome. He makes sure you understand the concepts and avoids trying to trick you on tests. Homework was 25% of the grade, which was great. I worked hard and received an A. Would take again, does lots of demonstrations and ties subject into everyday life.
Good professor although its not required to go to class. passed the class just by doing his hw(mandatory) which=tests his classes are interesting to listen to.
Professor De Vries is REALLY good. Fair tests, homework is reasonable, interesting/funny lecturer, and does demos. Take him if you can!
de Vries is an awesome professor. He always uses demonstrations and experiments during lecture to explain concepts and keep us interested. His tests aren't too hard, just based directly from his lectures, which are online.
Not too hard of a class. He never answered any of the e-mails I sent him. Homeworks were on webassign, which meant you could get all the points fairly easily. Tests were much like the homework problems except several concepts were condensed into each problem rather than one concept per problem on the homework.
tests werent too bad. usually fairly simple and straightforward. the lectures can be confusing at times, but the book somewhat clarifies. basically the class appears a lot harder than i actually is. the online hw, is super easy...
Clearly loves what he does. Explains stuff really well and if you do the work you'll get the grade you deserve.
A lot of HW, but it's not that hard
