passionate about world ag which is great but the lectures (mainly his graphs/charts) are cryptic and he does little to explain them. Know that you will be completely lost in class if you have not done all the assigned readings. He makes everything more complicated than it needs to be. Would not recommend taking

Great Professor and class! I might be biased because Diet&Climate Change is something I'm really interested in so I enjoyed lectures as well as the readings. We read about two academic journal articles for every lecture so it wasn't very reading intensive. Quizzes every other week which were most false, tough but usually directly from ppt slides

Professor Cleveland is an amazing professor! He is an extremely intelligent and talented man who everyone should get to know. This class wasn't an easy A, but if you skim the readings for main points and attend lectures you should do fine. "Most False" questions aren't too bad once you get used to them. I highly recommend this class and professor!

Cleveland is passionate, there's no doubt about that. BUT he is extremely confusing! His lecture slides look like hieroglyphics and he somehow makes it more complicated. He makes the class harder than it should be. He doesn't relate to students to well. Intimidating.

Loved this class and this professor! Not an easy A by any means, but well worth the effort as the topic is extremely important. Great professor, awesome person! Would definitely recommend.

Super smart professor, I respect him in many ways but teaching really isn't his strong suit. He seems to have trouble getting down to the students level. The class itself has lots of busy work. I strongly felt that he expected us to care more about his class than any other aspect of school.

This is an extremely hard class. Every week you have very tough homework assignments that jump from a range of subjects like econ and bio. His test questions are which one is the MOST FALSE which is confusing and frustrating. A good thing was my TA was very helpful, basically I would say don't take it if you dont have to.

This class seems more like an environmental studies course. There is a lot of online reading for this class, and the concepts can be quite challenging to grasp. His exams are SO hard and confusing. The format for each question is "which is most false?" and he gives quizzes and assignments every week. Don't take if you don't have to!

Professor Cleveland is by far the best professor I've had here at UCSB! His new class, Diet and Climate Change, has been my favorite class. If you are looking for a great professor to challenge you to think outside institutional authority and rethink your life habit, TAKE A CLASS WITH CLEVELAND! You won't regret it.

Professor is well-educated no doubt about that, but the course was extremely unclear. Tests were "most false" questions that were the most dreadful tests I have taken since I finished the chem series. Excessive studying is needed to do well in this course, no curve also so if you care at all about your GPA avoid this professor at all costs.

ANTH166BT - Class was very hard to understand. Take the pre-requisites before taking this class or it will be a foreign language. TA was extremely helpful as was the professor. Four quizzes, one final. Drops lowest quiz score. Section is mandatory and homework is assigned every week.

A very enthusiastic professor. A lot of reading is required, and weekly homework. Test format is difficult ("most false"). However, the class is fun, if you're willing to put in the time and effort required. I'd recommend a strong background in math and science.
