Professor Chang is a realist and addresses women issues (and other disadvantaged groups) from that perspective. Students are encouraged with her teaching style to come up with practical ideas to advocate for social justice work. I really loved the class, and I learnt so much that I was convinced to take on Fem studies as a minor.

The subject material in this class was very interesting, but the class itself was a bit disorganized bc info is given to students through email and nectir, not gauchospace. The class is worth taking for the information we discussed but it definitely wasn't my favorite class. I think it might have been more engaging in person, but I'm not sure.

Worst prof I've ever had at UCSB. Unorganized class structure, uses lecture time on tangents unrelated to course material, sends req. readings thru email (difficult to find/over 95+ emails sent this qrt.) & does not use a recurring Zoom link. Inconsiderate of the fact tht students are paying hundreds of thousands of $ for insufficient education.

By far the best professor I have had at UCSB so far. Her lectures are easy to follow she cares for her students and TA's. She's the kind of professor who shows up for her students. If you get a chance to take of her classes I would highly recommend it.

3 papers (1 final), 5 pop quizzes, super reading heavy, facilitation in section. Essay grade depends on TAs who were cool. Amazing lectures, inspiring, really eyeopening class. The readings were long but beneficial and eyeopening. Love prof chang. One of the few profs at UCSB who cares about her students.

Prof. Chang is incredibly nice and clearly passionate about what she does. Not a lot of reading, 3 essays (including final paper), pop quizzes every 2 weeks or so. Class is really interesting and she shows a lot of compelling content. Provides a healthy environment for discussion and a safe space especially for women of color.

She's a very far left professor that constantly bashes on capitalism and men as worldly evils. Unpleasant experience, and her hatred of people questioning her polarized opinions (which the class is based on) is a testament to her hatred of dissent. Seriously, it's cult-like in that lecture hall. Don't take if you don't want to get yelled at.

Dr. Chang was great. Class covered many important issues including immigration policy, welfare policy, and Structural Adjustment Programs. Attendance isn't mandatory, but there were 5 pop quizzes in lectures that add up to 20% of your grade... so you should go. Lectures are unorganized but your grade is based on papers anyway (from other sources).

Grace is a very sweet and politically active teacher. She really wants her students to be engaged and pay attention during her lectures. Her lectures tend to be quiet unorganized and she doesn't like to use gauchospace. You can opt for a final project at the end instead of the final paper and get a good grade.
