Daniels was an awesome teacher to me. He is tough, but he is an amazing mind, insightful, and made me become a better student and writer. I ended up getting a second major due to his classes. I suggest all students take one of his classes, but be prepared to work and be challenged. You enter with an open mind, you will leave enriched.

worst class I've ever taken. assigns 8 books and 2 long essays on all the books. lectures have literally nothing to do with the books. I don't know if he ever even mentioned the title of any of the books in one class, but still decides to take random attendance and if you miss 3 you're drop failed from the class. take anything else

Worst class ever. Lecture is completely pointless, but he sporadically takes role because he knows if he didn't, no one would show up. Giant essays are the only grades, and they're based entirely on the 9 books you have to read. Lots of work. AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS

worst professor ever. 9 books to read and 3 essays (it's not even a writing requierement!!). He keeps rambling during lecture, and his lectures have nothing to do with the essays since they are ONLY on the 9 books. Your TA is the one grading you for EVERYTHING so find a great TA (Karen liu is awesome). You can't even take this class P/NP.AVOID IT

I wrote a paper for the midterm and got it back; he absolutely destroyed it. I have never received lower than a B- on an essay. He is making me rewrite it, but with no constructive comments to guide me. Such things like, "UGH, Sigh, Do you have a problem using 'white people' in an active voice?" Extremely rude without needing to be.

Everyone has their own opinion. Mine is he is the worst teacher I have ever encountered. His lectures are irrelevent to the the topic of the class and merely talks about how america sucks. He apparently is a history prof, but grades like a bad english prof.

I thought the African-American history class was fantastic, he played us some awesome jazz and was so helpful and flexable with deadlines as i had all my papers at once. he is quite scary though but definately means well. the previous comments are not fair, its just he wont give you an easy A for writing poorly, and expects you to work hard

9 books to read. Dont take as 1st year, it'll make you think college is brutal.Douglas=very kind person, but wow, he is hard to learn from. Lecture=a ramble of what he wants. Haven't gone to class since week 2 or 3, just went today to pick up the final. TA is chill. Now we have a 12 page paper, wtf? He helped in no way. WAY BETTER blst courses srsl

Avoid him like the plague and don't make it to lecture because he will only ask you 10 million questions and then mock your answer in return. The subject of Africa is so important, I can't believe they let him teach it. And after 10 weeks of rambling about nothing...he wants us to write a 13 page paper! Don't do it!

I haven't gone to lecture since the second week of class because they are honestly pointless. There is no structure or organization to this class whatsoever. He pretty much rambles on about whatever he feels like. Don't go to lecture because there are no midterms or finals. Just go to section and do the papers. I hate this professor, avoid him

he was pretty interesting to listen to, but not very easy to learn from. he has a lot of passion for what he teaches, but doesn't present the facts very well. i had a cool TA, so i really liked the class.

I loved Daniels. He is extremely opinionated and very vocal of his views but it really helped me think critically. I really enjoyed the material of this class as well. My advice would be: If you have a real problem having your views challenged, skip it
