She is my favorite teacher in the cinema department. As a film student, I learned a lot from her theory class. I have to say her class is easy, but once you put effort in it, you will get return. She always try to help every student to get a better grade. The only possibility you didn't get an A is you didn't even try a little bit.

Class title is misleading, because she tends to focus on female portrayals of Asian-American women in film, and talks mostly about her own book. However, the class is interesting enough. Tough grader, but willing to help if you actually make an effort to ask her.

Her class was very interesting at first and then realized that it was the same thing every week and info was repetitive. If you ask her for opinion on papers she will tell you exactly what to write. Seems like a hard grader but then realize that she helps you raise your grade. Take if you love the subject or if it is your major.

If you want to learn more than the contents inside textbooks, she is the professor to go to. Tries to keep the class thinking critically. Her papers are challenging, so always do your readings. Moreover, make sure to go to OH - it helps when she knows what you're writing about in advance.

This class was pretty easy. The information taught got repetitive. Lectures were boring, but there were a lot of videos. Grade consisted of 3 papers.. only about 3-4 pages long, and a section grade. Good GE class.

She's very passionate about the subject, but she just doesn't understand that not everyone has the prior background in this field that is pretty necessary in understanding this class. The last portion of the class is pretty interesting. Unless you need this class, though, I would say avoid.

Was initially psyched for this class, but became extremely bored/jaded at the end. Lectures have nothing to do with midterms/final; most of the class never went. Passionate but doesn't know how to organize lectures. Goes all over the place with the material. In the end, I felt the class was entirely useless and a waste of time. TAKE SOMETHING ELSE.

Passionate about her subject, just not very good at teaching. Course format was disorganized, and the material on the midterms and final (both papers or a "creative project") were not relevant to lectures. Poor lecturer, reads off Powerpoint slides (which look like essays). Don't waste your time. There are way better GEs and professors at UCSB.

The teacher is really passionate about the subject, and is REALLY helpful. There's a lot of guest lectures and in-class screenings of movies and clips. Can be really fun, but also tough if you cant deal with heavy reading load. GO TO LECTURE - she summarizes the readings and simplifies the tougher concepts!!!

Hard but interesting. Keep the notes if you're in the ASAM Major or Minor - most of the classes build off this foundation

I took this class S08. I was really excited but it ended up being extremely boring. She turned a fun class into an extremely deep analysis of everything. Very passionate, but too serious for a lower division course
