I think it was way harder than it should have been. He's a nice guy but he made many mistakes and the book problems didn't even help because they weren't even on the test.
This dude made had to complicate chem 1A way more that it should've been. Every test had a couple questions that were worded so weirdly that it was pretty much impossible to understand what the question was even asking. Practice tests were nowhere near the level of difficulty as his tests and textbook problems didn't help either
So I took AP chem in high school, and this was way worse. I know that college chem is a whole new thing, but he is just not good at teaching it. The material is not hard but he tests it VERY badly. There is almost no way to study for his exams since he doesn't use any similar questions from the practices and the textbook problems are rarely used.
Definitely needs a lot of improvement as a professor, especially since this is his first year teaching. I was already struggling in chem and this class didn't help much and I didn't learn much.
Santiago curves the exams where you can actually lose points or gain no points at all. He made lots of mistakes in lectures and exams too. Final exam were random questions that were not in the book. Although, the final grade curve was decent.
CHEM 1A shouldn't be hard, but for some reason it was. I don't blame him for his lecturing because it was his first time, but the exams were pretty difficult. He had 2-3 questions on every exam that was literally impossible to do within the time limit. He would say do the book problems, but there were probably only 1 on the exam.
I took AP Chem in high-school but this was horrible. He's horrible at teaching it. He's nice, however, that doesn't make him a good professor. The tests don't make sense and the practice tests don't correlate to the exam. Avoid ever taking him. I did feel like an experiment for his first time teaching and it sucked. If you have him, good luck.
Santiago is the worst teacher I have ever had, if you want to learn anything crash crisjoes lectures because Santiago cannot teach. I'd recommend doing the practice exams, but he doesnt even use similiar questions when making his. I honestly felt like a guinea pig for his teaching alert PETA. Do not take his class if you want to keep your sanity.
If incompetency were a class, I'd suggest they let Santiago teach it. He's a nice guy and certainly tries, but to very little avail. Very clearly his first year ever teaching anything and chemistry is a rough place to start, so maybe he will get better? He doesn't know what he's saying >50% of the time. Take any other chem prof instead EtCHetera...
